Near Death Trauma
You know, I think people have been overly hard on A17 thus far. Aside from the bugs and glitches -- expected since this is a beta -- I've been more or less enjoying the changes. They've kind of screwed up Stamina, but it can probably be tweaked before the final build comes out.

But there's one issue I can't get over, and that's Near Death Trauma. Holy Jesus, this debuff can go ♥♥♥♥ itself. They either need to rebalance the thing, or remove it entirely, because it strips all the fun out of the game.

I need to make an Iron Sledgehammer, but I have to wait a full real-world hour to do so? Just because I died (in a cheap-ass way, because three screamers spawned on top of me and summoned around 40 zombies out of a building).

That's frustrating as hell.

I'm all for some kind of death penalty. Droping your backpack, toolbelt, or all is fine. That's very MMO. But Near Death Trauma just pours salt in the wound. I hope the community is raising a stink about it over on the Fun Pimps forum, because letting my game sit around in the background while I type this to wait out the debuff is not fun.

It was a whole lot easier not to die in A16, when zombie dogs didn't randomly spawn behind you and quietly set upon pinning you in a corner and chewing you to death before you even know what's happening.

The Fun Pimps need to pick one: either Near Death Trauma or Cheap off-screen spawn-killers. Using both is not on.

I've found the INI file that needs to be changed to alter the thing. I'm going to reduce the duration of the deuff to 20 minutes. That seems a lot more reasonable than a full ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hour.

There are already 2 simple mods taking care of it:

Shouldnt need mods to remove it.. it should have never been in a game like this.. expecially when they knew there would be bugs.. i die so much to fkin bugs such as my mouse and keybaord not working.. or zombies hitting while they are lying on the floor..
I know its experimental and its just a test but its ♥♥♥♥♥♥ lol

you don't need mods to fix this. NDT needs to be tuned down a peg. i'm in agreeance with Timedye. 20 minutes seems much more reasonable especially given how your perks return gradually over the duration. the penalty is too harsh and discourages any level of risk. if it were a "chance" to get penalised or a less severe duration i'd feel differently. i think it should factor in the death circumstantially.

died x times in y minutes. penalty
ate glass or triggered your own traps, penalty
got snuck up on by a screamer who summoned 3 hordes of ferals...probably not alot you could have done there. no penalty

Near Death Truma is bad, and this is why
The near death truma debuff is a bad implementation mainly because it reduces your stats a bunch. I find I do 1 of 2 things because of this debuff.

if I die before blood moon, then I have to hide because I am far too weak to fight.

or

I have to just avoid going out the day before in case I run into a batch of ferals that will more than likely kill me.

so either hide during blood moon, or hide before it, because of this debuff... I don't mind being punished for dying, but I feel this is the wrong way to go about it. Dying and making it more likely to just chain die after isn't any fun and no matter how careful you are, as soon as 4 or 5 ferals run around a corner you are almost certain to die.. So you get punished just for exploring.

If you need ideas to motivate ppl to try to avoid dying I would look into something a little more annoying and less game breaking. Some ideas might include

1. Having reduced stamina regen for a short time, making running back REALLY annoying and make it so you can't "handle" a vehicle of any sort

2. have a stacking debuff that does damage over time that like 1 damage every 15 - 30 seconds for x time and disables the healing factor perk for the duration, stacking deaths increases the frequency to a max of some value y

3. make block damage really low / scavenging take really long

I think 1 hr real life is crazy. I think they need an option to turn it off or increment of 2 in-game hrs. to loose everything for an hour and becoming a veggie for that amount time is stupid, at least give us the option. I have enjoyed this game since buying it in Alpha 1.1a and its finally getting back to its core roots of being a survival game and not just a building game. Well done Fun Pimps.

Soermm.. the penalty for dying
Ive seen a lot of comments regarding the penalty for dying. Most of them.. shall we say on the not so positive side?
But I kinda think its urgent to find a solution both devs and gamers can live with. I just ragequit the game for the first time ever simply because I wouldnt go throug another 45min of not being able to make better tools, loot a decent POI cus killskills are too low, or not getting mats from skillupgrades.
Theres no good way to put it, I dont like it the way it is. We have way too many features that in some way or another force the player to basically not play the game.
Stamina.. wait.. Earlygame nighttime.. wait.. Low health and no healing items.. wait.. Just died and want to kill stuff or farm a little less grindy?? wait..

Too much waiting, plox fix ded gaem /jk

srsly tho. I didnt log on to sit and stare at the screen for several way too long periods of my gamingtime.

Might sound like a rant. Thats fine, cus it is.I dont like it, at all. It made me stop playing my current favorite game.
Benson Nov 25, 2018 @ 4:27pm
It shouldn't be there at all. It's difficult enough already, and with that all that happens is its easier to die again and then more penalty. Yes I know it's a survival game, but it's already harsh enough.
