Near death trauma: too punishing?
Honestly? An hour to gain all your stats back to their former glory seems a bit harsh, especially for the first 2 weeks where your just starting to get involved into the game. At least you earn some perks back after a shorter period of time but it’s still a huge hit in the head

Eh. I don't mind it for the most part. Makes people play smarter, which is the way it should be.
The way you suddenly can't use certain skills though is stupid.

I didnt like the length as well, soI just went in and changed it to a shorter time. No biggie. It is the nice thing about 7dtd, a little looking in the files and you can customize it to how you like it.

I think they wanted to make it punishing. It probably works pretty well in Multiplayer, too: You got careless, you get to spend a day puttering around the base on "lite duty" while your friends take care of you. Be more careful next time.
It just hits Solo Players harder since they can't take time off. A lost day - especially early on - is crippling. Personally, I just used the day to explore and kill zombies with a club. You can do both of those things with all "1" stats. Had to take it easy to keep hunger down - walked mostly. And used my canned foods since I couldn't cook.

Yes, it is WAY too punishing. Here's a total of the skill points reduced by one death in 10 days: Perception -2, Strength -4, Miner 69'er -2, Pack Mule -2, Mother Lode -2, Fortitude -5, Healing Factor -2, Fully Hydrated -2, Slow Metabolism -2, Intellect -5, Better Barter -2, Hammer & Forge -3, Grease Monkey -3, Advanced Engineering -3, Yeah Science -2, Physician -2, Master Chef -2.

I'm basically useless for an hour because of ONE DEATH. It should take one point off of main attributes for maybe 30 minutes, stacking upon multiple deaths.

That still seems backwards to me. Surely cooking and crafting _is_ the light duty - if anything I'd expect a punishing debuff to make you worse at fighting.

Severe hour-long debuffs really don't belong in any single-player mode. It's such an odd design choice, and one of those that form the basis for the whole "There's no way they tested this" and "They're turning it into a multiplayer FPS"-line of thinking. Sure, we can edit it down quite easily, but the fact that they thought it was a good idea in the first place is really worrying.

you do realize that you only loose those skills on the onset, and you gain skills back as time goes on, correct? also i have a suspicion the intelligence skills come back first, no proof yet, but a suspicion, meaning lite duty still works

I think its very nice, dying slow your progress, and you feel that when can't do ♥♥♥♥♥ for an hour after dying. They could make it possible to adjust the time in game options for more cassual players but i think 1h is ok.

IMO near death trauma (NDT) is great. Yes, it's super harsh but this is how it should be. Basically: don't die? This is meant to be a hardcore survival game. Now, if there are deaths that are due to game bugs, then I can see that would be frustrating.

GAZZ_TFP said in a stream I was watching, after i asked him about it. He said at level 9 that I should only have lost 1 point. So it might not be working as intended as he said he would look into it.
I had 2, 3 point stats reduced too 1.

it seems a little too harsh. 60 minutes on standard settings is essentially an entire day. it has potential to cause cascading failure my bedroll is in the desert biome and i no longer have temperature compensation. so now i'm dehydrating, soon i could be dying of thirst since my body has all the water as i was migrating. leaving the desert biome is going to be tough. i have a good 1-2 km walk to the new town. my backpack has been lowered, my stamina reduced to default. i died to 3 ferals and a small horde on a shamways roof trying to setup a camp.

so i feel i was already pretty heavily punished by the horde and ferals and the huge walk back. it's not like i swallowed glass to fix a sprained ankle

You had some tough luck but its all up to you where you settle and what decisions you make. Its you who play the game and choose what to do in that situation. In survival games you should struggle to survive and be punished severely for mistakes or there would be no chalenge and no satisfaction. When you going to expect that game will always give you easy solution then your should stay out of indie games and stick to big companies, Every single player game this days is so borringly easy and 5 old kids can beat em with 1 hand. Im very greatefull that TFP are not falling under preasure and keep the chalenge up.

turned out to be 3.1 km hike through desert and burning biomes naked. final leg was apparently freezing for balance i guess.
PurityCE Nov 23, 2018 @ 3:22am
There is a mod that changes it to just 15mins instead of an hour on the official forums
Schnecktor Nov 23, 2018 @ 3:49am
i think it's just a matter of time at hand. i personally don't want to spend an hour of my precious lifetime waiting for a debuff to wear off.
maybe there are ppl out there who don't care. for me: if i am playing i want to play.
Sick Boy Nov 23, 2018 @ 4:26am
I also think it's a bit much. Some penalty is okay... One hour in real time is way too long.

But I'm a cheater, so I press "F1" and type "debuff buffNearDeathTrauma" and it turns it off instantly.
