Pump Shotgun Seems Weak
I dunno if it's just me but I kinda feel that the pump shotgun feels weak compared to the sawed off shotgun. The latter does way more damage and has enormous stopping power.

The pump is far better, at least when you have perks and are being charged by a lot of fast zombies. It definitely isn't weak. Plus, it has(or should have) a lot better range.

I assume you mean double barrel.

I consider pump shotgun the strongest weapon in the game, especially for how I like to play. I run full shotgun, 2 penetrate and 3 run/gun. I run sawed off mod, cripple mod, clip mod, and for late stage, rad mod. With blue or purple guns, either shotgun can single shot most non-rads, having damage around 200; the double barrel even more.

Kaguya's right about the clip size. Modded, the pump has a clip of 11 and reloads fast when perked for it. That alone outpaces double barrel.

With a book you also have a high chance of leg cripples added to the cripple mod and add stuns, all three on area effect, firing fast, 11 times. Facing a swarm, this usually stops the whole bunch, rad or no rad, and often in one clip. Returns the blood moon horde to walking mode. No other weapon drops a horde as fast except maybe a mg burning brass. All with minimal bullets (AE) and without brass.

Double-barrel can't do that, even if it's tops for single shot drops.

I need to try it with slugs, as it may be better then.

Pump shotgun is more versatile for sure but the sawed off has massive stopping power.

I’m probably using it wrong tho

The improved range, clip size, and reload speed should compensate for the sawed-off's stopping power, you just gotta fire an extra shell or two.
Yeah. It’s probably personal preference. The giant BOOM of the sawed off with its massive damage is super satisfying lol.

Since I wear heavy armor I don’t mind if it takes a bit of time to reload (very little tho, which high shotgun spec).

If I were wearing light armor, maybe I would see the value more. Need to try it.

My friend kept saying the shotgun is weak but I built into Strength Attribute and I am one shotting on day 70. I also use the sawed off mod.

Huh, I didn't think of the SawedOff mod for AOE, I always went the other way with the Choke mod for better single-point damage. I'll have to try this. :D

Actually, I like to run both of these guns at the same time : the pump shotgun & the SMG, for various reasons—but mostly because these are the easiest guns to make ammo for.

Shotguns have the same range. The range is defined in the shotgun shell.

I prefer the narrow spread nozzle mod for the pump. I don't know why but without it the shotgun blast; 90% of the time; hit the floor and breaks it. I had to rebuild structures I was looting to finish looting.
It's seems like I only ever need the shotgun for looting and quests too, seeing how cheap the ammo is to make. I know sneaky peaky pistol is great but running around with a shotgun is faster and more manageable; with a rad mod on it; later on.
Save my pistol and rifle bullets for horde night.
