Retrieving a despawned backpack.
Please please please tell me there is a way to retreieve a glitched pack, I refuse to believe 5 hours of work is lost. Surely they do not despawn your first backpack if you die a second time, I died miles away from my base and was on the way back. I orignally died to a glitchy wolf and then died again to that same invisible wolf. I was on top of a rock when I died the first time so I think the backpack either instantly broke or went inside of the rock. **Is there a command or something I can do to get it back?** I can't lose all this ♥♥♥♥ing work because of a glitch. Does the game maybe have multiple autosave files I can load back at? Is there some way I can get my stuff back. Please help.

Summed up: Died twice, first backpack glitched into a rock and wasn't retrievable. 5 hours of work is in that, is there a method to load back or respawn the pack?

Use creative mode. Might not get it back but then you can replace what you lost anyway.

Oh man, I'm sure everyone has gone through this, especially starting out. I have found that if I die on the way to retrieve my backpack from my previous death, the backpack I currently have is what drops and the other seems to vanish in lieu of the new one. One thing that helps is putting down a bedroll in the area you are looting, then you will have a very short distance to the dropped backpack. Although, you may have same enemy hovering around it. Good luck with that, lol. I believe that backpack will despawn after so much time regardless. You can save yourself future grief by backing up your save game folder on a regular basis. If the save game corrupts or you just get royaly screwed and just can't stand the lost time, then just delete the save game and rename and replace with the backup. Literally a life saver.

edit: I just tested this out and the previous backpack does stay along with the second one. I just didn't get to mine on time since I was running half way around the world. lol

As a future suggestion: make quickdrop chests and use the waypoint system to perma-mark them (if looting). Drop off backpacks frequently in secure locations. 5 hours without sorting out inventory is... really cocky. Wolves and other wildlife WILL find you and nail you when you're not looking and least expecting it... 10/10 it caught you with your pants down. As has happened to all of us at one point.

Great point. I have left stashes of loot in cities, towns, or any good loot location, all over. I especially try to leave vital items there that I can use to replenish when revisiting the area like when getting stuck there overnight and such.

Loot isn't everything, you still have a lot of skill points you gained in that 5 hours.

You have 20 mins to get your backpack, once you are in the "chunk". If you have to run across the map dont panic, the chunk wont load untill you get there.

Toggled cheat mode and just get all your stuff back, its annoying but sometimes you gotta do it. When I drive my bike in water I just get mad and cheat another bike in LOL.

Ah, it's a chunk deal. Good to know. Thanks.

I drove into the water once. I thought, just dissassemble the bike and carry it out. Had a full load in the basket. Then I paniced as I watched all my minibike loot scatter in the water and dissappear before I could do anything about it. It's funny now that I look back on it. LOL

First thing you should do after respawning is to open your map, zoom in on your pack icon and make a marker. The pack Icon always indentifies the last dropped pack, but the previous packs will not despawn, packs can glitch or be destroyed though.

This^ and if it is getting late and you feel like doing something risky, dont. Just stash your best stuff or drop a bedroll to keep you in the area if you die. Also if you dont gather anything on your way to get your pack ( keep your new pack empty) , if you die again the first icon will not go poof. But firstly , make a marker like Jad said to do , so you can still find you pack within the 20 min window. Good luck.

just make sure u join a server with drop only tool belt on death that way ur not totally screwed if ur pack does glitch under the floor or disapears.

I also like to place my quickdrop chests basically in the middle of every intersection where roads meet. In towns this makes it easy to drop stuff off from any building in town and at the intersections in the wilderness it's easy enough to see that if I forget a chest is there I'm bound to notice it when I'm driving around on my minibike once I get one.

thanks for all your help guys i really appreciate it. I think my best bet is to 1 learn from this and not let it happen again, and 2 attempt to remember what was in my inv and spawn my stuff back.

Don't get too hung up on anything you find early in game, there's almost nothing that will drop that you can't replace fairly easily with better tools a couple of days later. Except maybe that purple tank top you found.

I can't answer that but this might help in the future, when you're traveling a long ways from base carry a bedroll with you and toss it down when you know you're going to die, that way you at least spawn in the same place that you died at. :)
