Keep your storage safe from zombies breaking the walls... there's nothing worse than losing an antire crate full of supplies because a zombie has broken the wall behind it.

The 1x1 m wooden signs are ideal to use as labels for the square crates , and inserting them into the walls or floor is another way to organize and make things tidy.

Build underground. It will be safe from Zeds. I normally have 10 storage crates for various groups of items. Natrual resources, crafting, food, meds, etc.

im not worried about zombies breaking in, Im just looking for a visually appealing area. MNY base is 150 blocks below a mountain. so no zombies attack it.

Lol, ok, sorry I don't know how expert you're with the game... I thought it was one of those questions noobs come out with. :steammocking:

In that case I suggest you search the interenet, there's plenty of good examples over there:

Try the iron drawers you can craft in the workbench. Saves plenty of room you would waste for the crates. Also they're paintable and look cool imo. Just an idea

put your storage in the middle of your base and use atleast cobble for it and if you have a 2 story house put it on the second one i find this the most efective way of makeing a storeage area in 7d2d

As aforementioned, the 1x1 signs are great, but I find they get in the way and painting the blocks works better. I have a bizarre system of associating certain paints with certain types of items. Some are obvious i.e. you can paint a gun symbol for guns, but others like raw material I will paint a block type that reminds me of that, or something like power tools gets a metallic pant job. After a while you associate the image with the items and storage gets super quick.

I tend to combine my crafting and storage in one room. Around the exterior of the room place your workstations, and then your storage boxes above them. Not able to show screenshots as I don't have access to the game at the moment on this laptop, and don't have any uploaded.

I usually dedicate one corner of a room to workbench/general smelting with boxes above relating to a smelting dump box, weapons, weapon parts, and general crafting components.

In another corner I place Cement Mixers and Forges and boxes for Concrete production.

In another corner I place the Food Prep/Medical with room for campfires and a Chemistry Station. Sometimes I'll creative mode in things like the beer fridge, or fridge components instead of using regular storage boxes for the food storage. I considered just painting a storage box to look like these objects, but they have more ambiance when they actually sound like they are an actual fridge, than a regular storage box.

Along the Medical section, I put boxes overhead with room for medical components, and I've even creative moded the actual Pill case for medical supplies, even though the capacity is a fraction of a normal storage box, it's a matter of Aesthetics.

My current base design is to have a tower where the first floor is a dead space. Second Floor is the mini bike garage, and the third floor is the crafting area. I use the Business Pane Glass for Aesthetics to create big windows that you can see out of. Sure, the Zombies can potentially see you, but other than stray Cop attacks, unlikely for spiders to climb up the exterior as the third floor overhangs one block out from the second floor. The top floor/roof contains a garden and sniper area.

This was my original prototype design with a 7x7 interior. In a later game I build a larger version that had a 9x9 interior for multiplayer, and contained an extra floor above the Crafting area for Bedrolls and other Aesthetics, including boxes for clothing.

I've also occassionally placed storage in the floor/ceiling between floors so that they are accessible from both levels.
