Hey, yeah I contacted dell recently about some high temperatures but I wasn't experiencing them on 7DTD. However, they are coming to replace my motherboard and heatsink also.
I always have my laptop plugged in, I think I changed those settings already, I normally use Msi Afterburner to keep a track of my CPU and GPU heats, my GPU is always steady but CPU jumps a lot, hence why I asked Dell if they could help me out. Hopefully an engineer will be out to sort that soon, but again as for 7DTD, I don't have much issue with heat.
Thank you for the link, I'll go have a look :-)
I monitor my thermals on Msi Afterburner, heat isn't an issue with this game. I will re-check that it is using my 1080 however, I know I changed most games to, but as far as I'm aware it's definitely on my 1080.
I'll try to get a screenshot and put it up here, thanks :-)
I actually haven't ran MSI Afterburner with 7DTD yet, but have with all my other games so far. I got it about a month ago.
I'll give it a try! Thank you :-). Those sound pretty good, I haven't used mods yet haha
Your problem: Laptop
Fix: Desktop
There is no such thing as a gaming laptop or a high-end/top-end gaming laptop. It is a gimmick to sell you a useless piece of ♥♥♥♥.
DISCLAIMER: Even a Desktop will have varying performances. It cannot be avoided. All hardware is unique - quite like each and every human is unique. You will -never- get the same performance as someone else is capable of pulling - not even with the exact same hardware.
That sounds awefully doom and gloom you think.. So. What can be done?
Optimize your PC. This entails but is not limited to:
- Unparking your Cores.
- Setup Game Specific nVidia/AMD settings in their respective Control Panels (just dump all the settings to absolute max performance - your game will handle these things itself, there's no need for a 3rd party to cause conflicts)
- Clean your PC of all the junk you happen to download without knowing just by browsing the interwebz (you will be surprised how much there is from just one day's usage of the internet browsing).
- Make sure to clear out unnecessary RAM/CPU usage.
- Stop any and all firewalls/anti-virus/internet security and what have you not of gadgetry software to make you feel safe (all you really need is some common sense... the softwares will, rarely, protect you and for the most part only serves to slow down your pc - a lot. In fact they're more like a virus themselves in this day and age).
- Update ALL your drivers frequently.
- Before updating drivers make sure to remove the old drivers COMPLETELY. Never install a new driver on top of an old driver. ESPECIALLY for Graphic cards (that's a legit nono... It will slowly degrade your performance). <--- This will require software that can remove any trace of Drivers
There are a lot more you can do, those are the ones that I off the top of my head can remember. I have a routine for this so I stopped thinking about it years ago..
If it fails. You're left with: Buy new ♥♥♥♥ (it sucks I know).
My desktop:
16gb 1600mhz Ram
Nvidia 1070 GFX
I7 3770k
Old AF MOBO (legit I don't even want to check when it went out of production, it support PCI-E 3 and that's what it needs to support - on top of my CPU).
The best SSD I could find at that time, which is 5 years ago.
I have no issues running most games on ultra @ 60FPS.. Some games I have to disable shadows in order to get there, but that's usually the only in-game setting I fiddle with (unless we're talking mega raids of 40+ people where there are so many animations that no PC can run it...)
A lot of people like to blame games for not being "optimized" or not multithreaded etc... etc... etc... and it's all a bunch of baloney. It is their mishandling of a PC which in most cases leads to poor performance.
I'm sorry but I massively disagree. There is such things as gaming laptops, no one is asking for perfection. My laptop runs games like MGSV, FO4 and plenty other good graphical games on high - if not ultra - at 60 fps also. Sure, it gets warm, but that's not an issue as the heat isn't excessive.
Desktops are indeed superior, there's no denial in that statement, but a laptop can certainly live up to what it's needed for. I'm not trying to run 4k or anything too crazy.
However, I do clean my PC every month or so in terms of interweb downloads lel, and I do make sure my drivers are updated 24/7. So, I don't believe that my issues here for 7DTD are just because I have a laptop rather than a desktop, that's irrational.
I'm also thankful for your input in terms of the list, it's more than most would have to say, so, thank you :-)
What a rig you have there, very jealous! It's good to know it's to do with the game rather than specs then, haha. I'll give that a go, I've heard a lot of people say that. However, I'm playing in SP.
I have yes :-(
That sounds pretty cool! I'll give them a look. I love looting too, lol. It's the best part of many games hahaha
