A totally noob question

Being brand new to this game I'm having trouble placing the bedroll on the ground in the initial questline. I though it was right-click but am unable to find any info on this function ingame. I've dropped it many times thus proving my hypothesis that zombies won't eat stoopid meat as I'm currently unmolested. lol

What on earth is the placement method? Answer this and feed a zombie!

I've had this happen during the tutorial quest when I was out in the middle of nowhere. Not sure what caused it, I ended up moving a few blocks over and it let me place it.

I've also had it happen that I couldn't pick up the Bedroll after placing it (again, during the tutorial quest) so I ended up destroying it.

With thousands of hours into this game, I've seen it happen less than a handful of times. So I just chalk it up to one of those weird alpha glitches.

It may be worth noting that the Bedroll needs a 2-block height clearance as this is where the player spawns upon death. This may not be your problem but I thought I'd throw it out there :)

Don't stand close to the place you're dropping it, your body may interfere with the placement....

And yes, it's a right click, the left click rotates the position, right click should place it. You put it on your tool bar first, yes?

I am betting tool bar is the answer. you can't place things from your backpack. drag it to one of the empty spots on your tool bar, select that tool bar spot, then right click to place.

Thank you all for your replies. In answer to them here's what I was doing when trying to place this bedroll.

I was only a few yards from the spawn point when you first enter the game for the first time. I collected the materials and crafted it. I then moved it to toolbar box 1. This gave me a red outline so I moved about until it showed white outline and then tried to place the thing. My atytempted right clicking darn near wore my finger out. I tried other keys and moved around to see if it was the terrain but all failed.

Being outside I'm sure there were no restrictions on where it was giving a white outline so think I should have been able to place the item. I need to place it as I've not slept yet and am frayed to a frazzle..lol

I'm sure it's something I'm not doing correctly. Any other ideas?

Well, you don't sleep ever. This is just a spot to respawn if the zombies eat your face. As far as the bedroll, just clear any ground of debris and lay it down. It has to be a two block area. If it doesn't work from the hotbar, just highlight it from inventory and click "W" to equip, then lay it down. Should be simple, but ya never know. Could be a glitch and you can just restart the game and try again.

Possible you remapped the key to lay the bedroll down if nothing is happening when right clicking (RM rotates objects, but my spacebar sets it down into the world). Can you set down wood frames using the same key? Might wanna go to your keyboard mapping section in options and see what is mapped for what button.

thankfully you dont actually need to sleep, the bedroll is simply a respawn marker ... if you do become zombie chow this is where you will return to. Everyone else covered white and red so hopefully its just a matter of moving about a bit more to try place it or maybe scrapping it and making a new bedroll maybe it was a glitched one?

Sounds like you are doing things correctly. I would suggest verifying your files if not just doing a clean install of the game if it is a SP game. However if you are on a server this is most likely desync or a significant amount of lag that is the culprit.
