Solution for everyone who has problems getting Alpha 8.8 to work
Solution for everyone who has problems getting Alpha 8.8 to work
If you want to play Alpha 8.8 you maybe get this problem:

346.364 Entity.CreateEntity: unknown type (0) NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

If Alpha 8.8 is running without any problems, you can ignore this thread! You can also ignore it, if you are not interested in Alpha 8.8 or any other older Alphas.

Here is a solution on how to get Alpha 8.8 to work (at least, it helped me!):

1.) Uninstall 7 Days To Die

2.) Go To C:\Documents\ and rename the "7 Days to Die" folder to "x_7 Days to Die" (you can also delete the folder, but that will delete your save games!!)

3.) In the Beta-Tab of 7 Days to Die, choose "Alpha 8.8 stable"

4.) Install the game

5.) Go to the install dir and copy the whole "7 Days To Die" Folder to somewhere else (e.g. D:\Games\7 Days To Die)

6.) After copying the files, open the folder and go to:
7 Days To Die\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2010\

Then click on vcredist_x64 (or vcredist_x86 if you use the 32-bit version)
Follow the installer.

7.) After you have sucessfully set back the vcredist, go back to the "7 Days To Die" folder.
If you have chosen vcredist_x64, click now on "Install_64bit".
if you have chosen vcredist_x86, click now on "Install_32bit".

8.) Launch 7 Days to Die

9.) Go to "Options" then "Player" and choose a different player, than the selected one.
Apply those changes.

10.) Now close 7 Days To Die again.

11.) Press "Start" on your computer and in the search tab write down "regedit".
Then press enter / return

12.) In the regedit, go to "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\The Fun Pimps\7 Days To Die

13.) in this folder, search for "OptionsMouseSensitivity" and double click on it.

14.) A new window will open up and there you write down a number between 1 and 9.
1 means that the mouse sensitivity is very low, and 9 is very fast!
i prefer "3"
After that click ok and close regedit.

15.) Now start 7 Days To Die again and start a new game.
Thats it!

If you play the current or any newer version again, you maybe have to do step 6 - 15 again!
Maybe it will also work for you, if you leave some steps, but i needed to do all of these things to get it to work.

HAVE FUN!

It may be possible that this is also a solution for other older Alphas, but i never tried it.

Thanks for taking the time to post your solution.

I have to ask: Why would you play an older alpha?

Does it have lower system requirements? Was there a game mechanic that you liked about that version?

I have no idea about the system requirements, but i think they could be lower.
i bought the game short after they brought it on steam and alpha 8.8 reminds me at the first times i played this game.

Srry to revive an old thread, but I can't get past Number 5, there is no
"7 Days To Die\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2010\"
If im entering a Folder inside the copied folder, my options are

They might have removed that one.
But you can download it from MS, too.
Not sure if that works, but you might give it a try: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26999

Well, I wanna say this worked because it got past the normal issue, however it now crashes just before starting the world.

So, the later versions of 7d2d started storing the settings in the Windows Registry. This can lead to issues when uninstalling and re-installing the game. But, the later versions also included the 'clean....' option in the 7d2d launcher.exe--tools--tab--which you need to do after a fresh install. Since the old versions didn't have that tool, it may be that you need to clean up some Registry data in regards to 7d2d.

The easiest way to be sure you get a clean install of whichever version you opt into would be to do a 'complete' uninstall--where you delete all the left behind folders. (You can set aside your ...7d2d\Saves and ...\Generated Worlds\ folders to keep a previous save.) Then you'd use a Registry Cleaner--I use free version of CCleaner for example--and clean the Windows Registry of all the 7d2d data. *Note: Be sure to do PC restart after cleaning the Registry. Now you should be good to go for downloading / installing an old version of 7d2d.

The other issue you had for 'vcredistributable' is just that you didn't have some older versions of MS visual C++ installed on your system already. Older games still need older versions. For this reason, it's recommended you just install all the versions so that any game / app that needs any version will just work right from the get go. Get a full installer for C++ here;
----------** Get the full C++ pkg...All-in-one.
