Plus Oculus Quest 2 is out a year later here, and I grabbed one because that pricetag dropped from what someone said was $700 to just around $250. Best part is no wires for anything downloaded on the hardware itself, which also makes using SteamVR with it less optimal since you need a wire OR to be in direct line of sight with your router. The tech's getting there, and if the competitors get out cheaper headsets, then people that despise Facebook can get it as well.
And honestly, the Zuck could take his whole business and just put it up his own pooper for all I care. When a cheap and better alternative shows up, you can bet I'll be selling my Quest 2 for maybe 100-150 to put towards a cooler set.
There may still not be many VR gamers, but the floodgates are open now, and you're capable of buying in for a price cheaper than many consoles. Due to the PS5 shortage, it seems more and more lucrative, plus the games on VR will have more players and better sales compared to the PS5 crowd which is somehow still getting strangled by scalpers. Damn shame.
look at the date of the thread
its not happening (and thats a good thing)
