exploder zombies
so on another post someone talked having some of the burn victim explode on dead. So I ended up coming a few versions of zombie that explode.
Note I recall reading the devs are not huge on mutated zombies so these are mostly ment to work with out any mutations.

type one. low yeild exposive zombies (two types)
Dynimaite. a survivor that hand a preferince for tnt. when turned they still keep a number of tnt sticks on them. will explode if killed with gun fire (not arrows) fire or other explosives but not if killed with melee or arrow/bolts
pipe zombie. the stronger version of the TNT zombie that had a collection of pipe bombs. same rules as the TNT zombie but its stronger and has a stronger explosion

molotov zombie. A zombie that in life had a lot of molotov cocktails. bad Idea to get close to will send out a flame based explosion no mater what. but can't track the player both due to the smell of the cocktals and heavy burn damage.
the Flamer zombie. a soldier that used a flamethrower before death. mostly to destroy undead and dead bodies. works like the first type of zombie but is much stronger and there explosion has both flames and explosive power (aka terrain damage the molotov zombie does no area damage just flame)

the gernader zombie. a soldier that used heavy explosives and a grenade launcher before dying to the horde. while unable to fire any grenade. if killed with anything but arrows or melee they will unleash a large explosion. thankfully they are rare and rarely show up on hordes due to other zombie often staying away. but zombie can show up after they explode. so if one makes a hole in your base wall fix it fast before a horde shows up

In A18 they're already introducing a new "demo-zombie".

My idea was more of an upgrade for the burning zombie we have now: it would be cool if the feral version would explode in a burst of flames (like a Molotov) if killed. That's all. :-]

I like the ideas, and that they actually have some "story" behind them - too many zombie games lately just include a random exploder because all the other ones do, with no real feel about why they explode, ya know?

I'd have just a few suggested tweaks - first, on all "explodey" zombies there should just be a chance they will blow. Could be 50/50, could be 70% chance, but not every time. I like the randomness and gambling aspect of that.

Also, if we're talking flamethrower and grenade carrying soldiers, I'd like to see there also be a chance that melee damage can cause an explosion, but at a delay. You know, like you punctured the gas tank and a high whistling hiss sound indicates it's about to get very napalmy in the vicinity, or you knocked a grenade loose from its pin and now the loud ticking gives you a "here comes the boom" warning of a few seconds. Attacking all of the bomber types with flames or burning weapons should also increase the chance of demolition occurring dramatically.

It becomes interesting, because you could technically use the kaboomers to tactical advantage in hordes, if done right. You could also get overwhelmed while melee wading through the horde and knocked senseless or dead by one going off in the mob. It expands the scope of combat tactics with the random possibilities.

What I'm trying to tell you guys is that something like that it's already in A18... :-]

New Demolisher zombie.
Rigged with explosives he will plow through spike traps and explode when he reaches your walls. Shoot him in the flashing sweet spot to detonate him before he gets too close.

Yah, looking forward to what the demo zombie will bring to gameplay and such.

But that's a single type, with very specific focus and behaviors. The OP had some more broad ideas for different types of exploding zombies, which I found interesting. On top of your idea for a feral burning zombie blasting when it dies, heh.

Seem to remember players throwing around the idea of a specific block destroying zombie when the group zombie damage bonuses were introduced (and complained about). It was rejected back then...
