Ore Veins Biomes Mining
According to https://7daystodie.gamepedia.com/Mining#Ore_Veins these veins should be found for each biome:

Snowy Forest: Potassium Nitrate
Forest: Lead Ore
Pine Forest: Lead Ore
Plains: Coal Ore
Desert: Oil Deposit
Wasteland: Potassium Nitrate
Burnt Forest: Coal Ore

I'm in Navezgane in the Pine Forest and all i can find are Potassium Nitrate Veins, but actually i should find Lead Ore and not Nitrate according to the list above. Did this change maybe in a17?

So far i found following veins:
Desert = Oil (still valid)
Burnt Forest = Coal (still valid)
Pine Forest = Nitrate (changed?)

Yeah they changed you can now find nearly all of them in any biome. The only one I think that is biome specific is oil in desert

I'm in vanilla SP Navesgane and can confirm that those norms apply to what you will find when you are just above bedrock...that's the default you will find (at least mostly--can't confirm for all of them). For the life of me, I can't find the reddit/steam entry that helped me understand this, but it explained mining is based more on depth than anything else...in my own experience, this has borne true many many times. So much so, I don't even do the whole chase-the-gravel thing any more. I'm swimming in mined resources and don't really do that much of it--but I have high yield when I do.
If I find that article, I'll link it. It listed at what depths you can expect to find what...very helpful.

Thanks so far, i guess i will have to spend a bit more with mining... I will check all the biomes and check at specific height - may be i'll figure it out if it is still valid or not or just partially :)
Agreed with first poster, I find them anywhere except oil shale I personally have only found in the desert.

Apart from that, there does not seem to be higher chances to find the ores in different biomes, for example I found 3 huge nitrate veins in a row in the desert.

Surface gravel tells you what resource you're likely to encounter. Shovel it and you'll get traces of them. I tend to find the veins around 20 blocks or so down.

In my experience in recent games, the in-game guide text is out of date. Just check a lot of surface gravel patches near clusters of boulders, in a variety of biomes, as others have mentioned.

OP, it depends how deep you mine. You will find much larger nitrate deposits in the snow biome near bedrock, below 14 elevation.

If you mine to that depth in the forest biome that is where you will find the lead.

Look in the in game journal for the relevant information. As far as I know that is up to date.

I figured it out i think where to find what main resources according to biomes.xml:

Snow, Local ore: potassiumNitrate
Pine Forest, Local ore: leadOre
Desert, Local ore: oilDeposit
Water, Local ore: none
Wasteland Main, Local ore: potassiumNitrate
Burnt Forest, Local ore: coalOre
City (Diersville), Local ore: potassiumNitrate
city_wasteland (Gravestown), Local ore: potassiumNitrate
Wasteland_hub, Local ore: potassiumNitrate

I was digging under water & city so therefore explains why i wasnt lucky with finding lead :)
