[A18] New shape menu for building (by Madmole)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExJGf_e3jXs&feature=youtu.be

Here it is!! They finally put this in, I can remember we were talking about adding this since ages.

Now building complex stuff will be much easier and we also gain some speed and remove some clutter from the crafting menus... :lunar2019coolpig:

Nice!

I hope there's a fast way to switch between shapes. Like if I split my blocks into two stacks on the action bar, I should be able to assign a different shape to each stack.

The new terrain is more impressive than the shape selector. The desert looks much more realistic now.

Hmmm i started playing Empyrion to give myself a break from the 7dtd ulcers on the forum and come back to see this, looks exactly like the same way to build in Empyrion

That's what I was thinking. I'm assuming it's possible. That would actually save a lot of time.

Do I hear music from Diablo 1 in the background?

Yeah, E:GS was the main inspiration from which players asked for this feature long ago.

TFP have always taken things that work in other games and put them in 7DTD. :-]

IKR? I noticed that too!
To think how the game graphics was when it first started is flabbergasting!

Looks neat but has a "creative mode" feel to it for some reason.

Well, you're right, but TBH you can't have your cake and eat it too! :steammocking:

Does this mean that half-blocks and ramps will take the same amount of materials as full-size blocks, or do you get some kind of materials "refund" when selecting smaller shapes? I'm not sure offhand what difference the material counts are for different/smaller shapes compared to full cubes right now, but I'm pretty sure the smaller shapes use less materials in the current alpha.

Will this make the tablesaw mostly/entirely obsolete? Can't say I'll miss it being a requirement for some shapes, that's kind of a pain when you forget to plan around it..I'm just curious.

Or am I completely misunderstanding the video?
I thought it looked like you'll now simply craft the generic "block"/frame which you carry in your inventory and then, afterward, you'll be able to choose its actual shape from that list when you decide to place it. Does that sound right?

The materialcost are the same so there's no loss in crafting the basecube. You understood the mechanics correct.
As for the tablesaw, I don't remember which blocks are crafted there, I only used it to craft fences :P so I think they'll keep it for things like that, special shapes that might've been exclusive to the tablesaw will most likely be transferred to the generic cube (guesswork, but I think it's logical).

This is wonderful, I love building and having to only make the basic block and change it on the fly is quite exciting. As to the table saw, I just wish that it went away ;)
