What do you find the most important to loot/keep early in game?
Besides food and water what do you keep? How do you decide "what's important" when looting at the start of your games? I find myself trying to find a base asap to make chests to loot things, but it seems like a lot of people don't do this.

I know some people say they don't even talent into intelligence to build forges, workshops, etc. So what do you loot, or what do you keep if you're not crafting a lot of items? How do you survive through horde nights if you're not stashing loot to build a base?

Well, to be honest, I've never been a fan of inventory management, so I mod in a (much) larger player inventory and storage chest size.

So, I keep/scrap/sell to trader everything, from Day 1. It just wouldn't be fun to me to do otherwise.

Ooof Yeah it is a hassle to try to debate "do I keep this, or scrap that, and what should I do with..." when you're starting off. Especially until you get a mobile vehicle with storage.

I could mod I suppose, but I feel like in a way that's me cheating, and then I might as well just spawn in a 4x4 and gas for me to start with. xD

I keep nearly everything. While traveling to a place for a base, I will make chests or drop in cars, the items that I will not need till later. As soon as I have my first base established, I will make time to go and grab the stuff I left along the way within the first couple of days.

I scrap all lead, brass, extra clothes, and iron items that I don't really need.

It's like a trail of loot drops leading back to where I started.

Everything. I store it in chests in my first PoI base and I mark it. Later you can get it when you have a vehicle and move it to your definive base.

I'd would say any medical supplies that are grown or reusable I can get my hands earlier on usually benefit me later on when starting to engage more zombies. Usually for making First-Aid Kits or First-Aid Bandages. I still don't understand why Blood Draw Kits were removed though.

Often, I prioritize items that stack and that I’m likely to get more of, but aren’t easy to get in bulk. So lead or paper I’ll drop but brass items I’ll keep. I’ll also keep the useful stuff like gunpowder or iron. Then it basically just depends on what I find. If I can’t carry it all, I just make a chest somewhere obvious and create a sort of hidden cache I can return to later. Though half the time this “hidden” cache is just a chest in the middle of the road.

However, I often head immediately towards the trader the starting quest reveals and I’ll set up a very temporary base, often a little 3x3 tower only 4 blocks high with a ladder in the center. I’ll make a wood plate railing of sorts with the plate on the outside being held up by plates below. Then add a roof either held up by wood poles with space to shoot from or fully enclosed in hostile weather areas. There’s room inside for a few chests and a campfire. This isn’t permanent by any means, but lasts as a storage and safe spot until I know where my real setup will go. Given that it’s rarely far from the trader, it isn’t a big deal to pack up and move, especially once I have a vehicle.

My guess is that since they had made them single use items, it seemed redundant versus just giving you the blood bag again.

That's not too bad of an idea. I'll have to remember that one too.

I was wondering about that...

So now you just have to hope you find blood bags or purchase them?

If you don't mind could you show a screenshot of your tower/what it looks like please? :kb2_heart:

i think i was just another casual "early-game-addict" for the last years - usually only playing one or two weeks and then starting over - so i never stashed much but in this new version i find myself wanting to play a much longer game so i stash everything - prioritizing what is needed for current projects. always single player.

I think it would be cool to find or make a hauling wagon where you could put stuff into it and then just pull it along with you, but it's not a vehicle to ride. Make it have the same storage as a bicycle and requires 2 wheels, but can make it without spending intelligence points perhaps?

Kind of like a wheeling luggage suitcase sort of. That would be neat.

Everything. I take and keep everything, and once i'm overemcumbered, i make a chest, dump stuff i wont need in a while in i (brass, lead, duct tape, oil, broken glass, ammo for guns i don't have [someitmes it's best to take it with ya incase ya get lucky clearing a POI], and then you mark the chest on your mark with a permanent one (i particularly use the tent).

This way, you never have to worry about dropping itens, or having to go through POI's searching for some you now need but left behind before.

Exploring POIs has been a lot more enjoyable to me since A17, so I play nomad more often now than build bases. It certainly makes looting a lot simpler when you're not worried about hoarding every single crafting material and just need real, usable supplies... I.e. a few basic tools, whatever weapons and armor types you wanna use, ammo, food, fuel, and water.

Ignore brass and lead junk, ignore glass bottles and murky water, ignore seeds and other food or medical components. Scrap anything made of iron or cloth you don't need, turn glue into duct tape, turn forged iron into repair kits. So along with a stack of wood for general quick crafting, that's only 5 slots for basic materials.

Anything else needs to be valuable enough to be worth hauling back to the trader. Early game, that's usually weapon or tool parts, mods, and salvage (mechanical/electrical parts, oil, stuff that stacks high). Blue tier or better gear is repaired and sold whole. Hopefully by the time you are getting weighed down by multiple stacks of things like ammo or food, you'll have enough money and luck to be able to buy a vehicle.

You don't need to build a base for hordes. Just pick a POI to climb on top of and shoot them as they come up. :P

Or just allow us to push those shopping carts you see all over.
