This might just be a matter of personal preference, but I like to find/build a base near a water source.

Don't engage in melee against more than one zed at a time.
Learn to sprint while strafing (simulates a dodge).
Scrap unnecessary cloth items to make bandages and keep them on your toolbelt.

In fact run from most things cept the slow movers. build storage chest and keep running back and forth to it to unload. snowberries can keep you alive but dont eat more than 3 per hour, and remember to eat them every 61 minutes or so. find snow and dig alot of it with a stone shovel as this is the only water you can make until you find a cooking pot. i mean with the tin can so you dont jave to run back and forth to a river. we all died a lot at first..you will learn...

finish your tutorial quests asap then run to the trader. make your base next to the trader. they usually swpan next to a big city so there'll be lots of loot. also the traders have all 4 crafting stations whoich canm really boost you up early game. there's a random chance that each are either working or broken though. its down to luck there. food kills me more than anything. as a last ditch effort you can sell whatever you find and buy canned food at a vending machine. there's always one in a trading post and you can find others in bussinesses. yes keep tin cans, you can make water with them until you find a cooking pot.

You can easily get food from snowberries or cacti in the desert biome or you can get it from zombies.

Take care of food early. Everything else will come naturally.

Don't carry around useless crap in the first week or so, the most important things to carry around are wood, stones, fibers, food and water, everything else you should just store in a base/crate Don't throw away anything if you can help it though, store it and come back to it if it's not too far away from your base..I see people, while watching broadcasts, choose stupid aloe seeds to keep instead of cloth or fat, you can eventually get seeds for everything later on, don't worry about them in the beginning..Of course this is JMO but it's a SURVIVAL game for a reason so choose things that are essential to surviving. Of course you should also carry a coat/jacket and after a while a leather poncho because the weather changes very fast..The poncho cools you down and the other things warm you up, obviously.

Each tool has a Entity Damage and a Block Damage so make note of those. For example, the stone axe has poor Entity Damage in spite of being something you might use IRL against a zombie (if they existed).

Go to the desert and collect aloe and yucca. Aloe plants can be made into aloe which can make First Aid bandages or be used to restore health. Yucca (whether direct from yucca plants or indirectly from chopping down cactuses) can be used as food or with jars made into a drink and neither needs a campfire.

At the start zombies generally hit harder than you so the bow is probably your best weapon ("probably" because there is always someone who is different) - distance rather than melee attacks.

Traders now seem to be near-ish each city so if one has too many broken crafting stations try searching for another. (In my current SP world I didn't find a working chemistry station until I found my fourth trader.)

If you see the wandering horde before they see you then get behind it and pick them off from behind one at a time. Coming at them from the front or even the side can be a disaster early on.

In the early game I always crouch when chopping down trees or breaking up rocks because otherwise I tend to get blindsided by zombies. When crouching/sneaking just make sure you keep an eye on the eye icon so you know when a zombie has found you.

Oh, I should have mentioned that you should also carry first aid. :)

Crafting arrows before bow does not have an effect on quality any more. putting points in weapon building perk does that now.

Hit F1 and type "weathersurvival off".

* Do the quest tutorial as you will need all of that and will ensure you don't forget any basic tools
* Find a house/building with a forge, then make that your base
* Fortify enough to be safe especially during the night
* Be aware zombies smell, see, feel heat etc so if you're lighting a fire, cooking etc be ready
* Loot a lot, grab stuff as you run
* Keep an eye on temperatute, food, water etc all the time
* Try to setup base in an easy biome like forest
* Just use bow and arrow and melee only if they're down and no-one else around
* If they getup back away, one hit and you could be stunned and infected then you're in trouble
* Be very careful of dogs, wolves etc they reck you, you should be scared of them
* Have enough food to survive a night without issue
* Keep exploring, look for small farm plots, key tools like beakers, cooking pots etc.

Number one tip for a new player imo. A clutch bandage to stop bleeding on my toolbelt has saved my ass more times then i can count. If you see a small heart status effect after getting nailed by a Z pop a bandage asap or youll bleed to death. First aid kit is even better, it fills your health bar up much faster
