Island Base Question
I've made an Island Base pretty nicely, at least for a beginner - but I've got a question. What are the chances that a wandering horde actually manages to find my base? I know they can walk underwater, but are the chances lessened any by the fact that I'm in the middle of a lake, or is it completely random?

They will find your base. Water will not deter them they just walk along the bottom. When a wandering horde spawns in, they spawn in moving towards the player. If you are travelling else where at the time. Then you will never see said horde, as you will not be where you were when they spawned. If you are in your base though and stay in your base they will be walking through at some point. Or if you generate enough heat there Screamers will still come as well. Blood moon hordes GPS in on you so they also will be by to visit once a week.

Come to think of it I did take on a horde walking into the ocean in the direction of my home on day 5 or so, guess that's why. Maybe making a base on an island wasn't the best idea then lol. I was really hoping that it'd be rewarding in some way to put the extra effort in, damn. Welp, thanks for the answer, I gotta prepare for those hordes now.

Gives you an advantage in PvP. You can pick the swimmers off while they are crossing ;)

That's the 1st time in years on the steam forums I have see that blue check mark. How did you do that if I may ask?

Recently I've regularly experienced those wandering hordes when digging up treasure. Not every time but often enough that I usually crouch when digging so I notice the eye symbol change - fewer ambushes while in the treasure pit.

It may be that I'm out digging up treasure at the right time for the daily horde to wander past me or maybe digging up the treasure creates heat - I don't know.

I'll actually look into that, thanks for the response.

Not only will the pitstop hordes zero in on your location, they will zero in on your EXACT location. I've tested this by digging a 3x3 hole with wood blocks across the top and sat underground digging down. You only have to knock out a few blocks of stone or dirt before the first horde shows up and you can hear them walk right across the 3x3 blocks of wood above you. I wouldn't mind at all if they introduced a bit of an offset to their navigation point when they are sent, even if it meant increasing their detection range. Every single time I find an interesting POI I don't get to enjoy exploring it for more than 30 seconds before there is a horde bearing down on it to tear it apart.

I agree, sending the hordes directly to you is a bit weird. I would definitely enjoy a more "wandering" roaming horde.

becareful with your island supports, make sure everything is over supported incase they take out a support or two. You don't want your lovely base to go crashing into the water :p
