I miss the roaming zombies, random hordes and normal houses.
I been playing 7DTD for a few years and 9 diff Alphas. I been trying out the new release of alpha 18 a bit and i really like how the world developed overall. Great job on the development devs!
On specific terms however iam having a hard time enjoying the "dungeons" and sleeper zombies.
A big aspect of the game dissapeared personally when it went from roaming zeds and hordes to almost just sleepers. I miss cleaning out a block from zombies to be able to enter a normal house and not a dungeon. Will that ever come back? As i recall alpha 15 was great on that aspect!

There still are roaming zombies, and I just hit my first wandering horde earlier today (Day 13). I drove my 4x4 into an army base / depot (with the army truck in the garage in back). After wiping out all the zombies, and going up to the top of the radio tower, I started hearing a constant thumping. I went downstairs, and it sounded like two zombies on the other side of the brick wall. I pickaxed through the wall, and it turned out that there were about 10 of them, scattered along the back wall of the depot. So, unless the Depot POI is bugged, the wandering hordes are back, and very hungry. There are still some tiny POIs, too. For big POIs, the Shotgun Messiah Factory, Shamway Factory and Pop-O-Pills Hospital are still in there (although I think they dropped the zombie counts, the SMFactory was a little easier this time around).


Did you play the earlier alphas? Ive had them hordes as well, but so few and rar on my save at least. If you used guns there spawned more and they pinned you down. Now all i use is guns cause bows etc is useless in closecombat + there is no penalty to use them. Its just me that dont like the sleeperzombies at all, they add nothing to the game. Their smartness is super though, they hide and build themself in lmao.

I miss these and I really miss the horde nights we used to have that had massive amounts of zombies that would pile up corpses to get to you and didn't have an endless stream of a 12 at once max that always know your exact location. I would prefer if the heat map would give them a general idea of where your base is so that they tear apart your base looking for you which used to be terrifying.

Yes back then they were easy to cheese but the changes they did to 7th day hordes dumbed it down and made it bland instead of working around the issues that existed and making it better. 7 Days to Snore bring back REAL hordes with a set pool of zombies each 7th day with more active at any one time and actually clean them up so that they aren't so resource intensive, instead of the visual update and animation update we could've just had better performance with the same overwhelming odds that wear you down through attrition.

What also changed is the dynamics to the loot and the things to strive for. Before steel was the ♥♥♥♥ to go for. Books were in libraries, tools in toolshops or gas stations and guns mostly in Shotgun Messiahs. Now they can be everywhere with no common sense since every house is a dungeon apparently made by the mastermind who lived in it?. No logic to it. So much stuff they implemented over the years and worked hard on is now useless. Personally i find farming useless, barely eat egg and bacon anymore, just meat. i can make the list long.

It has gone from scary "the walking dead feeling" to something worse with every update since A16.

Hm wondering about the no screamers comments. Me and my friend are being constantly in trouble with screamers since day 7, if we leave the forge running for just 1 second(!) it spawns a screamer and we had them even spawning 3 at the same time. It's unplayable for us at the moment due to the screamer spam...I also checked the xml files and there should be a max of 1 screamer at a given time so I wonder where the heck the 3 screamers came from...

Yelp the sleeper system is dumb as it is implemented. It shouldnt be literally every damn house. Now pretty much every house is a dungeon type PoI with traps etc. We must be on a multiverse earth 2 or something with every human that lived being a mastermind. Towns and cities are pretty much empty compared to i think A16 it was. Most of what has changed for the worse has been noted in this post and the ones oblivious to it are dumb or ignorant.
The game has changed for good in some ways but when it comes to PoI's and zombies its gotten alot worse. Only certain poi's should be dungeons with some thrown in rng for normal houses on the list.

But there is nothing to shoot. I cleared entire forest yesterday with chaisaw and haven't seen a single zombie. Funny thing when I returned to my base I found corpse of zombie I killed 30 min prior still laying there.

I'm constantly seeing zombies and I'm playing on the easiest setting. Their corpse always disappears in seconds. We can't seem to loot them any more though, don't know why that is. Your seed may be just a bad one?

I think it's fun but if I were playing on normal instead of easy, I'd probably not like it. The POI's in A18 are extremely well designed, always something new to see, find or do.

Seeing zombies is not the same as being plagued by them 24/7:). I really doubt your game is so different from mine haha. Before you were never left alone, never went into town before having enough ammo and gear etc. Even struggled with ammo for guns. Now its so easy, ammo and guns everywhere + no zombies lol.
Now its so easy and designed in a way where the old way of enjoyment is ruined. Zombies also used to smell the food in your backpack so you had to hide it to be left alone for a sec, now it doesnt matter. Its so dumbed down that its sad.

True that they are well done and all...thats about it:). If i were a zombie i would roam around for food 24/7, not hide and sleep in POI:s, on top of that no be able to build myself in lol.

And I'm playing on the easiest or second easiest difficulty too.

I do miss the very earliest alphas where going anywhere near a city was doom, but realistically that's never coming back since the devs deliberately nerfed max zombie counts because the giant hordes you'd get back then brought most people's computers to their knees.

Ppls probably cried due to performance of their comp and they nerfed it to sell more copys.
I dont have a NASA computer but i was still fine. Hordenights now brings me and my friend down to lik 15-20fps, thats no enjoyment until most of them died lol.

My view of zombies is they are infected. They should be weak. Instead in games and movies, they are strong, in this game, a zombie can break down solid steel doors and yet be killed with a steel blade which makes no sense. In my game, when I have enemies on like lately, they are reduced to 25% hit strength. There is no 7th day horde because the Moon is just the Moon, a big rock. It should have zero influence over making zombies stronger.

What I found recently was interesting. A construction site, went down to the lower level found infected construction workers. Makes sense. Killed them, explored, found the workers had accidentally dug into a cave before becoming zombies. How cool, a cave I thought. I started to enter the cave, guess what started to come out? A huge bear! I almost screamed in terror. I ran out as fast as I could and he got stuck in a door which let me escape. Although I'd forgotten I was holding an AK-47 lol.

Later I was exploring a building next to the Church I'm staying in, found an elevator, its shaft lead down, then to another room with another ladder then to a connecting hand dug tunnel, up a wooden ladder, over a wooden cat walk, to another room, etc. with loot along the way, until I finally found the connecting room to the house next to it. That was fun! It felt like exploring in an FPS game like Dying Light more than a plain survival game. Except everything in this world is destructible. It's like icing on the cake.

I only wish we could build house boats like in the past when the water was broken. I had a cool lake house with a great view and totally safe, peaceful nights for crafting.
