Identifying Coal on the Map
Can anyone tell me what Potential coal veins look like on the map? You know the way you can tell where clay is because it's a brown spot? Is there a similar way to find coal?
Thanks in advance.

Lump of Coal can be found in the Burnt Forest biome or mined in other places. Using an axe on the smoldering wood laying around produces a small amount of Lump of Coal.

This is a good early game tactic, if you are not capable of mining coal ore in other places.

Mounds of coal can also be found on the ground around rural houses and randomly among the boulders in alpine forests. These appear as one block high piles of dark rocks made up of about 7-9 piles of coal. They stand out against the grass and are usually not to hard to spot, as they are black as coal.

Any mineral/ore deposit on the surface looks like a black rectangle with a notch in the middle of one side. The veins of ore can be found under surface gravel deposits. But on the map the surface deposits all look the same..

The best biome to create a home/base in my opinion would be the forest, as any crop can grow there, and every resource (besides oil shale which is found in the desert) can be found underground (E.G. coal, potassium nitrate, lead, iron). While looking for a suitable location be on the lookout for:
Campsites (For a cooking pot, and destroying tent blocks will give you cloth fragments)
Stores (Working Stiff for tools, Shotgun Messiah for weapon parts, usually spawns with lots of zombies however so be careful)
Water Sources

There is surface coal nodes in the plans biome. Big black patches that are easy to spot. Mining it requires you to be in the correct biome, and it will be close to bedrock.
