what is a zombie's max block reach? high many blocks high can they hit,
i am planning a tower base, so my question is how high can a zombie hit in terms of blocks,

so should it be 3 high or 4 or 5 high...............should it be 5 high to prevent zombies distroying the floor of the building?

Ive used a similair design and 4 high was enough. Keep in mind if you put log spikes on the ground that raises the attacking zombies by1 block as they are standing on top of the log spike.

Also if you use log spikes the bodies might pile up, not sure what the deal with that is in the current build. Personally i would go 4 higher than anything they might stand on around your base.

log spikes are 2 blocks from my soon to be tower

If the tower is on a paved street the distance between the spikes and the base of the wall is fine.

If the space between the wall and the spikes is dirt you might want to put in something more durable in that gap. If your shooting down and damage the dirt the zombies may use that " hole " and dig under your wall.

I use at least 3 with log spikes. Ideally you want to build a platform to jump into your base to increase difficulty of them jumping up and into your base as well. Build out ledges that keep them from jumping in period.

would it be just worth tunneling?

like building a spider hole, like the funnel web spider does, but use spikes around the outside and build a small room inside and reinforce it, and the entrance is just a small hole with a bit of a mound around it

Thisis old but i built it on a big boulder in a hurry 1 night. After that i kept building onto it since it was already started.

Like that other person said i had towers 4 blocks tall that i used to make temp wood frame bridges to enter the base. Then removed the frames for hoarde night.

Eventually we got to this point, FF to 1745 i think to see the platform system we use now.

Base design is kinsd of a personal thing, whats best is what works best for you.......... that might not be what i like or what works for me. So our design you might not like or it just doesnt work for you.

Theres some YT videos of bases elevated with the small round concrete pillars players can melle and loot between but zombies cabt get through.

One of the best parts of this game IS base design........... trial and error, sink or swim....... do what you think might work then try it and see............ its fun and exciting at the same time. If it doesnt work start over the next day : )

If your talking about a pit of death that your elevated above that sounds fun and it'll prolly work : )

...........danm that sounds like an awesome movie :P
starimg charlie sheen, morgan freeman, and a random uni student who doesnt speak english that some how ended up on the same bus that broke down with the rest of the film cast in the amazon forest, near a old ( trapped ) temple, and they have to get out of, or a sink hole 1 of the 2

but joking aside i was going to build it on a road, its so i am off the ground, away from zeds, its cheap, and preferibally affective, i can build rail's or something on the side to walk on and shoot the zeds below,

but now you've said that i think i might make a pit below the base, inbetween the support legs,

imagine a raised platform on 4 legs, with iron beams or rails on the platform to shoot off of, and a ladder or something to climb unto, it will also have walls and a roof,

imagine a square box on 4 legs ( the legs are 5 blocks high ) with a log spike pit below, underneath the floor

4 spaces above spikes (although you can usually get away with 3 if you don't need to trust your life on it) if you're doing a simple set of arrow slits to fire down with an early base for small hordes. 5 spaces above spikes for more permanent walkways or platforms.

I go about 5 high on my towers. I put a row of wood spikes next to the base of the tower, then a 2 deep 1-3 wide pit (depends on how long I waited to build and ran out of time) with iron spikes in it. Even the spider zeds never get close to my walls. By the time they get through all the spikes IF they make it to the walls 1 hit with an arrow finishes them.
