Farming on Yucca Fruit, Corn, and many more
Okay, so my friend and I are making a farm in one of his games, and we soon found out that we're getting only one vegatable/fruit. Is there any other way we can solve this?

You have to till the soil before planting, using an iron hoe. Otherwise anything you plant is purely cosmetic and will only return the 1 you planted. You can also fertilize to boost the amount per planted block, but its hard to get any early game.

edit: what Shurenai said...
Did you till the ground with the garden hoe before planting ?

Planting seeds on untilled ground will return only 1 back per harvest...

fertilizer recipe seems a little poorly considered in that it takes something like 45 units of various materials to make a single fertilizer.

I kindof agree, tbh. It's not terribly hard or material expensive to just make a larger farm. But on the other hand, Fertilizer increases the yield per plant AND makes it grow a lot faster, so it basically makes your low grade medical supplies, and food a complete non issue. in a smaller space that needs less protective walls

So while the cost of fertilizer is a bit high, what it does for you is basically take food out of your worries. and non-emergency medical supplies out of your worries as well, in the form of aloe for med bandages, which also paired with the ability to craft grain alcohol from corn, and that you can heal up with med bandages to keep using a blood draw kit, also enables you to craft med kits with little trouble.

If you dig around in the burnt forest, certain spots will give fertilizer.

Hah. It never occured to me to till without fertilizer. Fertilized ground yieds 5 units. What does tilled unfertilized ground yield?

Two or three, depending. For example, aloe gives two and corn gives three.

Edit: Said golden rod gives three instead of corn; corrected.

I also have another question, do we need to go to a certian place, like a forest to till the ground?

This was changed in a16 iirc, fertile dirt no longer exists as an obtainable item.
Edit: A word

No, you can till any open dirt blocks. Just not sand. And probably not burnt forest but I admit I haven't tried there because burn victims and vultures scare me too much.

Yep. And keep in mind that if there's a block that can't be tilled, you can always dig it up and craft the appropriate terrain block.

Cant till tilled ground, sand, or gravel i believe, maybe clay-ground as well? otherwise you can till the ground just about anywhere. Try to use a hoe on the ground, if it works, you can farm there.

You're correct, clay is also a no-go.
