FYI: Your post comes off more as a complaint, but nonetheless... you gave your opinion.
As for the issue itself - the AI is indeed terrible. But that is to be expected when a game goes through the motions of Early Access balancing and major content updates. It will be revisited in Alpha 17, so just hold on and enjoy the idiotic AI - where now... it doesn't bad or come off as cheese when exploiting the already buggy AI, even if you're not trying to exploit it. ;)
If you want a challenge try the True Survival mod when its released.
Also, it's Early Access etc. The devs were recently recruiting an AI / path-finding programmer, so I guess they know it's an issue.
I'm definitely not one of those people who tries to look tough on the internet by demanding that everything be more hardcore...I'm a mediocre player at best. I just want things back to the way they were.
