How to find oil shales?

Far into a game and fuel is getting low, most barrel locations have been cleaned out and respawn time is on 72 hours. Where do I find it?

Dig down in the desert biome. It is only found in the desert.

Short version: desert biome, dig down 22 blocks or more... that's where it lies, intermingled with iron.

You can make your own fuel. Turn corn into corn meal + animal fat + water = gas

oil shale is super easy to find and faster to process. the corn meal method is actually slower and more involved

i get more oil shale in a few minutes of mining than days of farming zombies for animal fat

you find oil shale in the ground by digging! normally with a shovel and pickaxe! most often in a sandy desert like area!

Oil Shale is also used to make Oil. But if you have no interest in using guns and repairing your bike, by all means, turn it all into Gas...

I don't think you realize just how easy oil shale is to get

You'll run out of cans before you run out of oil shale while making oil

I can turn every looted can into oil and still have 100's of barrels worth of gas to make

The limitation on crafting oil isn't the oil shale, it's the cans (and if you tell me "I have tons of cans" that's great, I can over flow every single one of them with oil and still make another 500 gas barrels whenever i feel like it)

It's like looking to make bullets, nitrate? coal? lead? Nope, the limit on bullet making is brass. I can guarantee no matter how much brass you throw at me I can find 3x as much of the other materials in the same space of time

The only thing more common in the desert than oil shale are the small stone and sand you'll be getting on the way to the oil shale

Shale didn't used to be that common. I only found some recently, thought I might have just been lucky o.O

Unless your like me and just edit the files a little......

15 metal turns into 1 brass (I like to think of it as refining)

Hmmm the cans could be simply some iron + clay (Common we can make electrics ect, but not a simple can lol)
