console commands/achievements
I bought the game a few days ago and was stunned how fast the food and water went down. I raided house after house and killed all zombies I saw. But i never found any food at all, so after a while and death by starvation i found out about console commands and spawned in some food and water for myself.

Then a friend joined me and I used the creative tool (set as off when the world was created) to spawn in some stuff so we could learn the mechanics of the game and when I was done i turned it off.

I had read before that console commands would not affect achievements neither would cm if it was turned off when i attempted to complete an achievements. But my achievement progression is still the same after 2 days, did they change it? Was the other forums lying and I wont get any from that save?

1st off if you cheat (using the console commands is cheating) you should not be able to get achievments period.

That aside if you want an achievment (that is not one from cheating), they indeed do not work with the DM mode enabled, or cheat mode enabled in the sand box options. If TFP changed it to not work even after you disable them in A16, I had not heard this. Though I would applaude such a change.

Query on this: is this true of all console commands? I have used the 'gamestage' command a few times just to get an idea of how far I've progressed. Annoying if that means I stop getting achievements. Not that I care that much about achievements, but that one console command doesn't really feel like cheating.

Maybe I'll hunt out a mod that sticks that data on the hub or char screen.

I knew it did not work with DM "active" yes i know console commands are cheating but on my first "game" i just got so sick of not finding any food what so ever, I think i looted around 15 houses and killed 35 zeds and did not find any food XD

there is only one really reliable source of food early on...

Yucca Plants!

Go into a Desert Biome and harvest the crap out of the cacti... than you should have plenty of food to survive several days.

also this will the chance to level up a bit and than you may start finding other edibles.. or slay one or two animals and just cook their meat.

you can also go into farming and grow your own edible (and cookable) plants.

Hunt and harvest food when you don't find cans of it.

I've gotten stuck in the invironment a couple times, usually right next to the door of my base tower. Something weird is going on when it opens/closes and I end up inside the walls of my base and can't move. Only way to get out of it (relogging didn't help) was to use "teleport tp" in console. I never had console on otherwise, so had to turn it on while logged out. If it turn it back off again now that I'm unstuck, will I get achievements as normal?

Should be fine with it off.

This, you're a scavenger and potentially losing some stamina and a little bit of wellness to stay alive is par for the course early game. It's easily remedied later.

You most assuredly do not have to eat either of these things. You can in a pinch though, sham sandwiches are best eaten in your base as the will hurt your stamina. They will also drop wellness so they should only be a stop gap measure for emergency use.

When I found the farm I farmed the corns and made cornbread, then I found some fertelizer and started to farm my own crops. Now i have a decent farm, my base is close to the water and i can make my own jars. Also now me and my friend tend to find more fooditems and are now in no need of "spawning" in cans :)

Found 1 rabbit the 2nd day after that i never found a single animal until day 10 and by then I had my small farm of crops.

Yeah I play random gen and yukka fruit isn't always available so I've gotten used to eating dirty for a few days while I find a better location if my lucks awful, but those are rare circumstances if you find a town it's usually got some form of plantation in it that'll tide me over anyway. Save some of them for seeds and you're good to go.
