They were actually ment to keep the dust off you, as per the name.

still they were used in the wild west adding heat in the desert bad idea

I can tell you, wearing a duster in the summer is HOT when there is no breeze, but not as hot as having the sun beat down on you all day in the open prairie.
It's your own personal canvas tent.

Dusters in the old west were made of cloth. The dusters in the game are made of leather, they're
the type worn by bikers for protection.

I couldn't imagine hanging out in a desert and having to put on more clothes to protect yourself from the sun instead of less. I live in the northeast (USA) where if it's even close to 100 degrees everyone's dying and wearing almost no clothes and going about it that way is even almost unbearable. Never been in a desert and never want to lol

That's why no one wears denim pants in a sauna.:steammocking:

there good for rain(in game maybe rl dont know) too if you add a helm with it like cowboy or minner you will not get soaked and thus wont freeze. if i catch it in time i will only get to about 10% wet.

Its common in the South and Mexico for people to wear layers of clothes and long sleaves to keep cool. It traps your sweat basically and cools/protects you more then sitting in the baking sun in a tank top.

Since you are from the North, I understand why you probably dont realize this. Its like how down here whole cities shut down with an inch of snow, and tons of car wrecks because we dont know how to operate in the cold. lol

Yeah being bare skinned in the hot sun is not comfortable at all. There are basically two ways to keep cool. One way is the layers and not moving much in the heat. (think turbin and robe) The other is light cool clothing with LOTS of water so you get cooled by sweating (think those white shirts and broad brimmed hats the archeologistwere in movies). But being naked means you get cooked rotisserie style!

Ya know, Im not sure about this but I think a duster would actually work to cool you. It would be heavy enough to get you sweating but it is open so it lets the breeze in there to keep the sweat cooled so basically your clothes underneath would be soaked and the breeze would act to continuously keep the wet clothes underneath cool.

Thinking about it, its a pretty nasty way to keep cool. Wallowing in your own sweat and purposefully staying that way. I guess thats why most of the time its only manual laborers who take advantage of this irl mechanic.

Well, no, cloth dusters were to keep dust off your clothes. Leather dusters keep you from losing all of your skin in a motorcycle accident.

the dusters in game are not leather jackets you see motorcyclists use there long leather dusters they would be horrible for the speeds motorcycles go you want tight zipped up leather neck to toe if in wreck it helps with road rash scrapes and dragging.

the ones i see in the game is what looks like ranch coat guess a duster. leather cured is very water resistant keeps the elements out and if lined quite warm though they are long coats so the cold can get in and heat escapes.
