mushrooms
is there some trick to growing them? they seem to take forever to actually grow. it's long enough that it's pretty pointless even bothering to grow

They grow better in complete darkness.

Well they're not fast growing veggies so I guess it depends on your perspective, but ours grew much faster in a completely dark room as opposed to on the surface. The soil they were on was also fertilised which may help with them, but it doesn't seem to affect the growth speed of any other crops so I wouldn't think so.

As my own little experiment I grew my 'shrooms on the surface in fertilised soil and, at the same time, underground in plain tilled and fertilised soil, to see the difference in growth rates.
The mushrooms underground took three in-game days longer in the fertlised and 4 days longer in the plain tilled soil than those grown on my surface farm. Make of it what you will but I will continue planting up on the surface :D

good tip about darkness.. so the rules say plants need sunlight, but this is not the same for some good quality shrooms?

Fertilizer

even using fert.. harvest time is till long.. u just get more..

Plant more then. Plant at different intervals. Right now, without fert and with plowed earth, I'm getting 3 mushrooms. You should have plenty. They aren't really that useful for the time being until the devs balance food. Just plant corn and make crap tons of cornbread and grain alcohol.

I think veggie stew is currently the best way to eat well and gain wellness, meat stew is great but the food it gives combined with the lesser wellness received after hitting 150 means veggie stew beats it if you can keep up with the demand.

This is interesting if true, mine took ages on the surface when I tried, hmmm. Did you notice any difference in harvesting amounts?
ChocolateTeapot Jul 24, 2017 @ 12:06pm
@Ad
On the surface I get 3 or 4, underground 2 or 3
I know some folk plant in a dark room and get a good return, so my lower amounts underground may be due to the fact that they are underground with absolutely no daylight, I don't know. I just tried it out after reading that folk say to plant in the dark.

On a side note, I do think we should have a farming perk to increase yield or growth time. Maybe it would increase the potency of fertiliser or something.

You can grow them above ground too, as long as you keep them out of the sun. I built a window-less shack for mine, and they grew fine.

mushrooms take longer to grow than trees now :(

Faerador Jul 24, 2017 @ 7:46pm
I'm growing mushrooms in the sun with no problems. They just take twice as long as the regular crops, fertilized or not. Fertilizer should make no difference in the time it takes for harvest; merely the quantity is affected by fertilizer.

I also agree that we could use a Farming perk, as well as a damage multiplier perk for Archery, like we have for every other combat type (meaning pummel pete, better lead than dead, etc.)
