A16 - I'm starving ! Sooooo hungry I could eat a zombie

So A15 farming meat for a day was easy enough... that would last a good week at least. I'm finding A16 that animals are not as populous... and the pigs even fight back now lol.

So.. is there a better (sustainable) way to feed yourself now ? I never did much farming before except to replant trees. Is corn and such the way of life in A16 ?

I'd be ok if I was near a desert but I have not seen one yet.

Farming is not bad once you have fertilizer, have soil and till the ground until the hoe drops a white patch of fertilizer them eqip the seed and right click it in the white.

That is where I run into trouble the fertilizer doesn't land in the center of a box and so the plants sometimes miss the mark.

Plant one and if you plant in the fertilizer you get 4 back quickly, make some into seeds and repeat, you'll have food in no time.

Forgot to add no need to refertilize the soil, once done its done for good.

Farming is a good way to provide food. Even without fertilizer if you cultivate the land with a hoe first you will still increase production slightly. Another thing that may help is when hunting try to sneak attack with a headshot. It is not always easy to do but with a little skill in archery you can usualy one shot deer and boar that way.

I have no problem killing deer and boar.... but I seem (in A16 anyhow) to be having trouble finding them in sufficient qty. I think I'll give farming a go. I dont have access to fert yet... but as long as I get at least 2 per crop... 1 to eat and 1 to replant... then good enough for now.

Towns and traders often have a Vegie Patch which you can raid to get some seeds going (have seen Corn, Potatoes and Blueberries like this) The Village i live in had 2 Potatoe and Corn Patches. Also the Trader are fertile so you will get a lot from them.

Green sandwiches will keep the Grim Reaper from your door, but you need Red Tea to wash it down to help the stamina loss.
I run around with at least a half a dozen when scrounging.Never killed me yet

If you eat one or two, it will drop your stamina for a bit, but it's never down long enough to bother me much and red tea is a boost as well.

That is a fact.
It's the only thing I think you can actually kill yourself with QUICKLY.

farming yes, In a pinch I eat boiled eggs/yucca if I have no meat.

One thing tho, If you are having problems finding animals get out of your comfort zone and explore unknown areas. Then uncovered parts of the map are more likely to have spawning animals than the same routes you usually follow to get around.

Also while doing other things always keep an eye on the horizon, any far off movement you see, investigate it. Its often an animal.

Since you menion being OK in a desert, you know about Yucca.
Many towns now come with a random corn or potato patch.
Turn the corn into meal, turn that into cornbread.
You can go a long way on baked potatos and cornbread.
(Would recommend planting it on the roof of your base. Corn and potatos need sunlight, so up on the roof. Also, note that some plants will not grow to completing in a snow biome.)

@OP: actually you CAN eat zombies, since Rotten Flesh can sustain you with just a bit of wellness loss and temporary food poisoning. If you're in a very bad situation and you already reached your wellness bottom (70) you can eat zombies without fear!

Honestly, I've not had much trouble finding animals, I just notice they don't spawn and wander to your base like they used to, if you wanna find animals regularly, go hunting, makie a trip of it if you can, and it seems there are high spawn chances for boar and chicken near the farm POIs especially.

Just grow corn and make cornbread. It's incredibly easy to get food. People are just lazy
