PSA: Don't read multiple treasure maps of the same name
If you read a treasure map, like "Taylor's treasure map", and have another one by the same name, don't read the second one until AFTER you have located and secured the treasure from the first one. If you read them both right away you will still only have one treasure quest, but both maps will be consumed.

Indeed, S (scrap) instead of A (read) would be easy to do
Sure, scrapping it instead of reading it would be easy. But when you scrap a map, I don't think it pops up the dialoge with the quest note and the buttons to accept or decline the quest, which both of my maps did.

Shrug. At this point it's clear that the burden is on me to reproduce this behavior, and while I may get around to it, I may not. Thanks for your responses regardless.

You reproducing it would only prove you have a corrupt file, as I already noted above

You can litteraly pull out 100's of treasure maps and try this in seconds
Not sure how you were able to read a second treasure map by the same name. For us, if you've read (for example) Taylor's Treasure Map and pick up another Tayler Map, the READ button is greyed out until you find the first one.
Ive found stacks of like 2 of the same treasure map and once I read the one I can not read the second so not sure how you were able to read multiple of the same map but sounds like a bug of some sort though it is still a good PSA in case anyone else is encountering the same thing as you.
Learned that lesson last night :steamsad:

Kuno, thanks for the detailed post, however I am certain they were the same named quest as they were stacked in my inventory. Pity I didn't take screen capture. Must be a bug of some sort I encountered?
I have never been able to read 2 of the same treasure map in this game. And I always read every map asap as I loot it in order to save space, then go back later and hit up all the maps at the same time. If you already have the map then its greyed out.

What I think happend to you is this..

If you go too far away from the treasure Icon you can lose the quest (this has happened a couple times to me) I dont know the distance but lets say It was in the NE (7k/7k) If I go to hub I might lose the quest, as an example.

So what you did.

1) read map then traveled too far and lost quest.
2) picked up another map and read it and then realized you lost the quest somehow but you assumed it was from reading the other map.

or

you spam read them both too fast and it caused a glitch where you didnt flag either quest. So like read one and then before it flagged read the other causing neither to be flagged but both to be consumed

@Ricky Reinfield: this is an interesting theory.
I tested this every way I could think of on single player in creative mode and could not reproduce.

Then I signed back into my server, enabled creative mode to give myself a couple duplicate maps, and reproduced the behavior instantly.

Can someone else who has a dedicated server try this please?

1) Sign into the server.
2) Hit F1 and type 'cm' to enable creative mode.
3) Give yourself two copies of taylors treasure map from the creative menu.
4) Read both.
