IMO, the solution is simple: add "cooked/fried egg" to the cooking pot recipes, remove the water requirement, and give it the same stats as boiled egg plus a -1 to thirst. It now serves a viable purpose in the very early game, before people locate a more reliable source and start saving their eggs for better, more complicated recipes. If the reason eggs cost a bottle of water is simply a code limitation and not some strange attempt to use up water in the first few days, then I don't see why we've spent several years unable to cook an egg in the same pot we use to cook an egg with bacon.
People have tried giving work arounds because crying about it on the stream forums is silly as the fun pimps don't look here for your ideas.
They have offical forums for that on their website
Again... it doesn't seem as though the OP was looking for workarounds or asking for help or pro-tips in gameplay efficiency. Some people come to the general discussion forum to just ... generally discuss a topic. It seems like they ought to be in the right place for it.
Seems pretty silly to post something but not want feed back that may help the situation.
You have to hoard them to make lots of top tier Food later on.
^This.
Was offered up on Page 1 and seems to be a reasonable piece of info regarding food balancing.
'Eggs suck!'
"You don't have to eat eggs man"
'I HATE YOU ALL'
not quite. quite often the word "troll" is a lazy, catch-all term that is misused by hotheads when they encounter opinions they don't like. e.g.:
"i think this aspect of the game design is wrong and needs to be changed"
"i don't agree, i think it's fine"
"you're not agreeing with me! how is this possible, i'm always right! i lack the ability to debate you in a civil manner so um...TROLL! STOP TROLLING ME!"
OP's point is that early game, cooking an egg is totally not worth it. And he is right. It is a complete waste of the egg, the jar, and even the fuel/time to cook it, given the pitiful amount of fullness/wellness it gives you.
"Eggs are meant to be hoarded, boiled eggs should only exist for emergencies" is a valid opinion. Not a particularly sound one, but valid repsonse to a disucssion.
"Stop crying, it's easy to get glass jars. Edit the xml if you can't deal with it" is not a valid contribution to the discussion.
Then why have boiled eggs if they're not meant to be eaten without bacon and blueberries?
OP's point was actually that a boiled egg isn't worth it, and he's absolutely right.
Eggs provide the same sustenance as yucca, but are far harder to find. There's no reason not to make them cookable without a jar of water... it doesn't unbalance eggs, nor does it make battling hunger "too easy". If anything it gives players a choice. The veterans will almost always hoard the eggs for later, but that's their choice.
Maybe a better conversation would be: why are deserts, which are supposed to be barren and difficult to survive in, by far the most bountiful biome and easiest to survive in when it comes to food and drink... yet we're worried that being able to fry an egg will unbalance the hunger system?
Forges are day 1... 2 if you are slow... 3 if you have a monkey on your back...
How is a forge not early game?
Forge + sand = unlimited glass jars... I usually make 500 to 1000 within the first few days and then never have to think about it again....
Needed leather for a forge? Every house or store with a leather couch in it = leather. It takes me longer to find pipes than it does leather (And by longer I mean 5 or 10 minutes tops)
