Fall damage was nerfed massively for Zombies due to people doing exactly what you have done. The pitfall was too effective so they made it so that the worst that can happen is crippled zombies. It no longer kills from my experience.
Indeed i tested it out aswell :( Well it did seem like an awesome idea to let zombies fall to their death :D To bad it has been nerfed :(
I personally have taken to trench warfare with the Zombies. Works quite well, high maintenance though.
Just No, dont do it. Dig a trench and eventually you will have a rabbit warren under your foundations.
Just use a mix of Spikes to maim and dismember, Barbed wire fences to hold them in place and barbed wire on the walls to absorb block damage whilst hurting them.
A ring of death plus an elevated shooting platform/s is all you need. Upgrade the spikes and you will have a nice low maintenance form of defense. Besides if you dig deep trenches then looting the corpses is a pain in the ass.
Most zombies will survive :D
True :P Thanks for that, I will try it out.... Still too bad for that falling pit though :P I wasted many hours building this xD
Damn.
Not necessarily! Try digging a basement inside your base to about the same depth as your falling pit. Now knock through the wall from your new basement to the pit. Replace the removed wall with concrete or steel pillars. Do this gradually to avoid collapse! These pillars will allow you to shoot and loot through them, but zombies cannot get through the spaces.
Now you have a "shooting gallery" in your basement.
I too have spent a lot of time buidling a fall damage base, I accept that its not an instant win base but it should make a difference, large drops should have an impact on Zds otherwise it penalizes a lot of grinding and work players put in as it takes a large amoutnt of time and resources for such a base and is logically a good idea.
This is a maojor unannounced nerf if true and its not fair to not mention it which i dont believe it has been
Z's are dieing from falling - when you are smart.
1st zombies don't taken falling damage when falling near other blocks => need overhang if one full block above (each level!)
2nd zombies need to fall on a clean point (not on or near corpses) => make a min 3 blocks wide ramp that corpses will falling down and away from the falling points. Make the half angle ramps, where the landing point (block 2 and 3 from the wall, the first is the overhang) is the same block high and will not reduce the falling damage, but corpses will falling further down
3rd most zombies will only break there legs on a one level pit => make a two level pit, each min 30 blocks deep.
4th failure will be - when Z's will falling on each other => so make a defence line - just in case
5th if your base will work, you are really smart! Don't forget to collect the loot on the ground ;-)
You litteraly just gave me a good idea XD since i already have a big falling pit, i gonna add a second one like you said. BTW : i have already an underground bunker where i can see the zombies fall so if they get stuck somehow between the 1st and 2nd pit i can help 'em a bit :P
Thanks alot !!!
Indeed it has not been announced but it has been nerfed (100% sure)
Well, if you feel like digging an effective trench 60 odd blocks deep round your base feel free. See you in about 2 months.
Again : what a waste of loot and resources from corpses
