or the skinning knife

Skinning knife sounds like a modded item, so I'd hazard a guess to say it's suited specially for the task and would be better. I always use a knife for harvesting though, since they can be made. Machete's are reserved for zed butchery :D

I think you mean the hunting knife not skinning knife, the others are the machete and a bone shiv, I think the bladed weapon skill helps with amount but not sure. :rf:

Unless they use Valmod, in which case they meant the skinning knife.

@Sword

Ah, cool, I was wondering, had no idea it was part of Vals (not a mod person till gold) I'll file that away in my old noggin for future posts, thankyou. :wololo::rf:

Neither tbh. Technically the Hunting Knife is better option but unless you are swimming in Metal just spam craft Shivs from Large Bones. They last quite long at higher levels and iirc wiil level up your general crafting. If for some insane reason you run out of bones just wallop any corpse with a stone axe to get more.

Oh and if you have the Workbench spam craft and combine them for even better quality

I assume you are harvesting infected corpses??

Large Bones : Shivs or Glue
Rotting Flesh to go towards Fertilizer once you have the Concrete Mixer
Animal Fat for Tallow for torches, candles or BioFuel

Plus it levels up whatever class of tool you are using so I use Axes, hammers, shivs and even my clubs sometimes.

All 3 are on par i use all 3, the knife the shiv and the machete, no difference in meat collection between them.
Bromulus Jan 11, 2017 @ 8:06pm
Actually there is a difference.

While the shiv is a step above the stone axe, it is below the hunting knife and the machete... when it comes to butchery.
krzosu18 Jan 11, 2017 @ 11:39pm
stone axe has 0.5 ratio
shiv has 0.7
and hunting knife/machete have 1.0 butchering ratio

aka using stone axe will yield only 50% of potential max meat
shiv will yiel 70% and the H.knife/machete 100%

so it you are interested in max meat then use the H.knife since its relatively easy to get
but if push come to shove its better to use the shiv over stone axe. Cheers

I've experimented with the bladed items and the stone axe on zombies harvesting. If you have the bad mechanic maxed the stone axe gives the best yeilds on zombies. I don't know if it is the same as fresh meat harvest.
I seem to get about the same rotten meat, more bone with the axe. I haven't tracked the fat. Also haven't experimented on fresh meat.
Bones are glue, and a 250 stack of glue is 7k+

Played this game for a long time but machette with 4/5 upgrade kife guy is the top butherer on meat. People forget it adds a 25% bonus to resources collected. Rendering the hunting knife useless ( well less productive :)) Why not 5/5 ull probly butcher the creature in one swing drastically reducing meat harvest (nice job pimps).
