Which Spikes are best?
Assuming I am surrounding a building with Spikes so I can live on the roof, which type are recommended? The fat ones are cheaper and do less damage but can be upgraded. The "spike bundle" ones cost a heck of a lot of wood, do more damage, but need repaired all the time. Any recommendations?

I use the cheap ones until I can afford new ones, I keep the old ones, just add new rows.

Wood log spikes can be upgraded so generally they are better, I would recommend using the wood spikes in early days ( Cost 100 wood ) because they're more powerful in their standard state than what you can upgrade your other spikes to at earlier stages of the game.

Wood spikes no contest. Upgraded log spike still just make crawlers which are far more of a PITA to head shot. The cost reflects thier effectiveness. Log spikes are best used on walls at teh base of a wood spike field.

If youre playing PVE, definitely use barbed wire. The damage output is a little lower, but they never automatically break, zombies almost never attack them (as long as you place them on the ground and not on a wall), they slow the zombies down and even break their legs.

I always do an outer perimiter of barb wire trusses (sometimes two rows) before my wood spikes. very effective, stops runners dead in thier tracks almost, making for easy head shots.

fun fact: you can stack spikes and barbed wire too :-)

Thanks all

Honestly I recommend both. The "fat" spikes are ideal next to walls (or other obstructions), where the bundles are good just about everywhere else. The fat spikes do moderate damage, but can take a significant beating. The bundles do high damage, but are destroyed easily.

That's why spikes up to the walls, and then log spikes on the walls. !st line is the barwire paired with easy head shots, then however many rows of wood spikes make you feel "safe" lol. If they get through those then then encounter your wall with og spikes facing them. By that point you can travese a lip on your wall you can shoot through. I would go iron bars for that. That way you can chew em up with guns from a safe spot as spiders cannot get around the bars. If they get through those walls. Well you gotta start to question your aim on those head shots at that point lol.

I have found the best is to make a row of alternating spikes, then as the game progresses, add additional rows of alternating spikes.

The log spikes slow the Zs and the regular (expensive) ones do great damage.

Both types of spikes are cheap to repair.

Stacking spikes is not very effective because the Zs will just break the upper spikes.

A row of barbed wire a few blocks out from the spikes will give additional time to shoot the Zs.

I dig a 2 block deep trench 1 block off my tower wall. I fill it with upgraded log spikes. I put 1 row of wooden spikes next to the tower. I put 3-5 rows of spikes going out from the pit.

I make a tunnel for an entrance to get in and out of the tower without ladder. I prefer wooden spikes over log spikes. In the method I use above, a lot of them just walk on the log spikes like they are not even there and they are upgraded as far as I can get them.
