Tree house. 7th day horde defense
I've just figured, and tested that you can place ladders and frames and use the tree as a pillar zombies hit once in a while. I'm, right now, looking at 42 day horde running arround the tree while I stand on a small platform I builded there. This opens a new window of opportunity to handle those GPS brain eaters every 7 days.

Bad: trees cannot be repaired. Cops still spit and can destroy the structure
Good: Zombies hit the tree randomly and once in a while, giving enough time to deal with the horde or hide from it (repairing whatever the cop damages) until 6.00. if a ladder is placed missing one at the bottom, zombies won't climb.

So in other words zombies aren't coded to attack trees and that needs to be fixed :)

They attack the tree, it seems they are not causing damage. But if you see the tree health, it's been reduced. I'm monitoring it right now, they hit the tree once more. It's past 6.00 am now and the tree's health is 1131/1200, meaning they hit it once more, but that would be it.

It's not that they wont attack trees, in the older versions when you could plant trees side by side they would mow them down "toot sweet", now zombies are too busy doing the "you've been served" serpentine dance under your feet that they will only hit the stucture the second they loose sight of you.

two or three were constantly throwing blows at the three, I was in their line of sight.

Wow, you can plant trees so you have a row of connecting trees, like Ewoks.

I have seen trees fall in the distance while fighting the horde.

Not surprised, I mentioned they hit the trees

Not any more, now you have to leave a space of about 3 or 4 blocks between zapplins

Try it and let me know your experience. I've just tried it this time, while I was discovering it. I didn't kill any zombie, so no more would spawn to avoid cops, but go nuts with it and post your story!

In a13 I tried building a tree base in a maple tree I planted but the branches were very annoying.

Cops will be your biggest danger but not from their spit hitting the tree. It will be their spit eating away at the ground which causes the tree to fall over as if cut down. That happened earlier this week while playing with a friend in a shared world - the cop was aiming at us but hit the ground by the tree just right, there was a creaking and the tree fell. So your tree platform/house/base can be brought down with one lucky shot by a cop. :steamsad: Just so you're aware.

7th day feral hordes have a limit of how many zombies are alive at one time. So, the best option to deal with them is to not kill any non-threating zombie. This way you may have 8 zombies runing in circles until 6.00, then you kill them and you are done. Cops are dangerous because of their spit. They can tear down your structure and make you fall, take down the tree by destroying the ground, etc. I don't think I works for a permanent base, but it might be a good idea to have at least 2 trees well designed so you can just run there on blood moons just to wait till 6.00. This is, ofcourse, if you don't want to deal with feral hordes, otherwise, make a strong base and fight back.

the limit is set for every horde, so the numbers will increase progressively
