Block placement vs terrain deformation
So I just spent a good hour digging out a one deep 20x20 area - only to find that the block placement grid is at an angle to the direction of the very smooth cut terrain square Ive made.

The terrain does not smoothly cut at the same angle the block grid is on - so Im left with this very ugly mess of blocks not actually hugging the terrain wall Ive dug out.

Am I missing something? I mean I cant imagine the smooth axis of terrain deformation would not match the smooth axis of block placement.

Block faces, take wood frames for example, run parralell to North, Sout, East and West if that makes sense..the actual terrain rolls and meanders where it pleases. Take into consideration which direction you are facing when planning a build. Also dont forget you can pickup those NE, NW, SE, SW directions, with 45 degree blocks.
Interesting, thanks for pointing that out =)
Mathoy is correct about the N,S,E,W thing. To see it, or explain it another way, a dirt block is not dug in a square shape but rather a diamond shape. If you want to dig a large square hole for your base do not dig at the sides of the dirt squares but rather at the corners.

In other words, look at it as if the building blocks are the correct angle and the dirt itself is what's off-angle.

I don't know if that helps any. :)
