Miltary and Hazmat armour and Fuel is pretty much all I sell to him, as we always have these in excess and he pays well.

gold silver diamonds and old money.
sell the gold / silver /diamonds a few at a time, even one at a time - to level your trading skill.

NVGs, old money and puffer coats because of they are common and fetch good prices.
Paper, Duct tape and glue because surplus is easily achievable. Paper especially has few uses and is very very common. Late game antibiotics, painkillers and beer for the same reasons.
Obviously gold, silver and diamonds because they have no other use atm.
Beakers because once you have half a dozen there is not point stock piling them and they fetch a good price. Similarly calipers and tool dies.

For easy large amounts of coins you have to sell military, hazmat, weapons(asembled or not, do both). To do that, visit military camps a lot to kill each spawn. At first you wont get too much because you need some level to barter but after few trades you will notice big increase. Example, rocket launcher will be such an expensive item to sell that you will have too many coins and nothing to buy. Also you need to know more than one trader location to increase income, they dont buy unlimited amount of stuff. Beside that you can also rent vending machine.
Good luck making millions of coins.

No probs. I am all about making deals. I know people. Good people. Traders. Especially early it does a YUUUUGE difference. You level at almost each sell. I'ts gonna be great. But if you sell all at once you gain 1 level only. Sad. (Sorry for the trumpisms, couldn't resist.)

Scrap electronics, electronic parts and plastics also sell rather well and its not like you have much use for them once you make enough lights for your base.

My problem is I always end up with 50,000+ dukes by day 30-ish and he has nothing I need. I mean by that point the only items I am looking to buy are those that go to make bullets and ammo and have become bottlenecks because they are a pain in the ass to collect in the quantities you need (Feathers, Brass, Gunpowder, Paper, Ammo itself etc) and he rarely has any of those. So yeah, I find traders rather useless.

Sounds like you have your loot abundance set too high and air drops set too frequent.
Also if you have long days, you get much more play time in your 30 days than someone with short days.
