Workbench XP??
Seeing as the workbench is relatively new and I havent played a whole lot since its inception I was curious as to how it's xp works for items crafted within it.

If I queue up, say, 500 arrows in the workbench, then wander off into the wilderness far away, do I still get xp for items made in the workbench?? I read you still get xp for items made in the workbench but I'm wondering if you still have to be in proximity of it to do so.

The same question would apply to other stations like the cement mixer, chemisty station and so on.

Is there a range limit to xp? Or is it 'queue and forget'??

Thanks in advance, as always!

You only get experience for crafting items in a workbench if you are actively inside the workbench when the crafting is done.

Oh, ouch, ok, well what I read was not correct then. Thank you for clarifying!

Workbench is for product only, not xp. Got it.

Thanks everyone!

Depends. I at times craft things and scrap them on the bench to collect resources back while still crafting. Or craft on both at once to get more done quicker if it will be a while.

Craft things in your inventory and the workbench at the same time, while actively inside the workbench, and you will receive xp for both.:gentlemanrandy:

Organize your inventory, plan your next adventure on the map, toke a break, get some munchies, browse the forums, upgrade your guns, put in skill points, etc, etc... lots of things to do while you wait and the xp piles up fast. :happyrandy:

You can also upgrade your tools independant of any crafting jobs happening. It's easy to craft 50 or so stone axes and upgrade one to a much much higher level while you are still crafting more stone axes for example.

Yep that's what I'm doing for leveling tailoring. I craft enough of one part to workbench upgrade it to 600, then switch to the next piece, so I'm leveling and getting maxed out gear at the same time.

I mainly only use the workbench to make things that require one (and combine things for better quailty of corse) or to make things that will take a lot of time so I don't tie up my backpack craft slots for 20+ minutes, like when I am chopping down trees away from my base and I need to repair / make a new axe on the go and I have 15 minutes left on the spikes I'm making.

Around day 6 I have around 10k or so wood, then I will go to the workbench and make a tushy ton of wood spikes in it. By the morning of day 7 I have around 100 spikes to set down and get ready for the horde and have saved my craft slots in my pack for my on the go crafting.

Here's how I upgrade my pickaxe and get the xp for crafting the next one without being in the workbench. Fill the workbench output with items. I use one wood in each slot. Q up 1 or more pickaxes. Bench can only make one at a time. Go down in my mine and mine until my equiped pick needs repaird. Go back to my bench and remove the wood from 1 slot this allows the pickaxe that was completed crafting but there was no room in the output for it to now drop into the output and I get the xp. Combine picks and repeat.

This is the same principle people used with the forge and anvils to lvl.

You however cannot use this trick on stacks as there's not much point. The workbench can't start crafting the 2nd item if there was no room in the output for the first one.
