Edit: Or for people with bad eyesight and I mean BAD eyesight... craft yourself a few letters in iron. They're big though, so... make sure you got room. :P
I think it's a clever addition to the paint system, and I like having plain boxes for most things anyway
more importnatly you can craft all your crates then paint them more specifically afterwards.
paint books are stupid easy to find
I have yet to find any and looted a town already. So much for stupid easy to find. I don't mind being able to paint blocks with it, but why take the painted boxes away from crafting. That is the issue here. All you can do is paint a box without any signs on it.
make signs, i always did that anyway since i kept each resource in its own anyway and theres no painted version to label them as wood /iron /stone /etc
I always used the First Aid Box for anything Chemical and Health Related, Food for Food, Weapons for anything Ammo and Guns and the Construction Box for Materials. One for Wood, Stone and Coal, Potassium etc and one for parts that are not guns.
I liked that :P.
Heck, even when they were crafted (instead of painted) signs worked better (for my play anyway):

I am probably gonna write this later to the official forums too. Because that is really not what I expected when Madmole said he is implementing a paint system.
How is it down to RNG? Are you not getting how this works?? There is a generic crate now that
works the same as the others did.
You just slap a wood sign on it and write down what it is for. Used to do it all by memory in storage chests anyways. Not that hard to remember what is what at the end of the day.
