It was removed because it was "incompatible" with the survival aspect (in 7DTD setting).
I've played around a few times with having live map on the display via HUD modding and there are just many pieces that don't quite work.
madmole has stated they are not likely to spend time working to make it work and left return of the minimap to modders but that isn't feasible due to some issues. Heck, even displaying some of the map data puts a risk of exposing some known bugs (example having map coordinates and/or bedroll coordinates on the main display introduces a known null reference exception anytime the user's cursor/target goes over an area a waypoint would normally be visible if the map window were open and visible even though those waypoint markers are not visible).
Out of curiosity, why not? if it's an option, just don't enable it.
There's your answer
Ok, then let's have TFP make an OPTIONAL auto item organizer for the inventory, with categories and fast search buttons + multi backpacks! It wouldn't impact anyone since it's OPTIONAL!! I don't care if A16 get's released one month later to do it and if it will add tons of more potential bugs.
I'm a developer, I know what it means to have optional code. My bosses always want optional features and it takes at least double the time and effort than if it was always there. I also didn't say it must be in Alpha 16. I'm just saying that it is a feature I would like to see at some point.
Don't see why. I don't like the idea of the map showing me zombies. Just a layout of the terrain.
Ok fair point. But it should be implemented in the future as Andhrimnir already said. After they fix most of the bugs and all of course. Andhrimnir is a developer himself so he knows what he's talking about. And I used to be employed as a game tester, so I know what testing games at Alpha or should I say, pre-Alpha feels like. We used to have a very good SCRUM team and applied daily regression testing, stress testing etc. I believe that a minimap in the top left corner shouldn't be a problem to implement. They just need to make it simple that's all. Excluding showing zombies on it. Just let it show the roads and the landmarks.
Also it's not like you have a GPS or something on you. The compass is already enough.
And the fact that TFP have removed it for the reasons given by Red Eagle, means that TFP are unlikely to bring it back. It is their game and they have said it goes against what THEY feel their survival game should be.
I understand your PoV and I too like minimaps in most games, but I agree that in a game where surviving against all odds, having a "How'd-that-Holographic-like-map-get-on-top-of-my-head" minimap defeats the purpose of "surviving" if you can see somewhat ahead of that mountain range what lies there in terms of terrain and possible POI.
I want to have that uncertainty. I wish to go up a mountain range and go WTF when I stop inches away from a 30m drop in a oddly RNG cliffside. Since we're already going to get better RNG and the ability to see VERY far ahead as of a16, I feel the minimap is kinda pointless anyways.
