Its not infinite but based on difficulty setting, your level, the number of days survived and number of players in the area it rapidly ramps up to a very large maximum number of zombies.
Ex. by level 20 even discounting the days alive modifier (which can only add more zombies not subtract them) it will have 3 spawn groups of max 17 zombies, 51 total only allowed to actually spawn 8 at a time. If you kill all them it spawns 17 more 1 at a time.
The highest game stage score will have it spawn 3 groups of 185 zombies (still only 8 at a time) followed by 2023 zombies 2 at a time.
The only ways to get meaningfully finite hordes are to either barely level up and die a lot or to edit the file.
This, this is what I was looking for. I was hoping for something slightly more realistic, like maybe I just didn't have my 24 hour periods long enough. Clearly I need to get better aim with the crossbow and make more bolts at a time.
Going by that then, if you don't harm your initial horde until 4 am, youll only have the base spawn and nothing more to clean up ?
If you didn't know what's going on then i wouldn't think that's cheating.
Think of it as an endurance fight.
After you level up a bit it gets more challenging.
I stand in the middle of a road (at max level) and run n' gun 'em.
(think Benny Hill with zombies)
Daft Helmet has a good explanation on what's happening during a blood moon so i won't repeat.
