If it's about Rented Servers, like Green777 asked, here's my experience so far.
I first had a server with Vilayer. Cheap monthly price, with decent location selection. However, they have very poor customer service if you ever encounter issues with their servers. Connectivity and server uptime was poor for the Montreal location (hosted by OVH locally), but Vilayer did piss-poor follow-ups with OVH to fix the issues.
I even rented a VPN at OVH itself to run a Dedicated server on it, to check if they really had poor connectivity and they were pretty good on all fronts(Customer Service and uptime).
So basically, Vilayer has a good pricing, but very poor customer service, and follow-up with their hosters.
Now with GTX gaming for the past 2 months and I can say - they're very good with CS and Uptime. Price is slightly higher than Vilayer, but cheaper than others. They keep you informed about pretty much everything - had a change in Control Panel hosting location that didn't even affect me and I was still informed, asked to report if I had any issues.
And that's it - I recommend GTXgaming, but really don't recommend Vilayer for anything.
When I decided to choose GTXGaming to host our server it was with the knowledge that they provided:
• Automatic backups, restart, and steam updates
• Automatic offsite backups and 2 months backups saving.
follow this link and you see they clearly state that they provide this (this is a current claim) [edit: TRUSTPILOT does not allow links so I removed link]
They removed the following advertisement from a different page after I showed them what it said "We zip up your server on every reboot and upload it to our offsite backup NAS. You will never lose data. We hold data from every reboot for 30 days"
When a new alpha dropped we went through the routines as usual and we found server corruption so we began to do the norm... server rollback to a clean day, keep player profiles & levels and player bases current.... Guess what, we could not find the saves because they don't have the means to do a rollback.... We sent tickets about this and spoke to multiple tech’s and I was told "I'm sorry you felt you were misled but to run automatic backups for 7 days to die would fill up our backup machine in a matter of days. The backups are so large."
This means you must log in GTX cPanel and manually click backup server. This SHUTS DOWN the server while it backs up and back up takes us 20 minutes to 40 minutes causing our server rank uptime on 7d2d server list to go down
When I asked to have access to files that are saved after each reboot I was told this "I believe you can't, unless you made a backup and you restore that backup now." Again, this backup is done manually.
Our choices were to find a new host (there are hosts out there that do automatic updates and provide ability to do rollbacks) or create our own solution to this problem. So, we came up with our own scripts to do our own automated backups that can be done while server is running using an FTP program and a schedule task manager program running on a personal PC server. This alone has saved our server full wipes.
I have run a 7d2d server for over 3 years and I can tell you now, if a dedicated server host for 7d2d cannot provide you with automated backups and ability to do rollback, find a different provider or you will be doing many wipes over the course of each alpha release due to various reasons all because you can’t do a simple rollback.
Another issue we have is I have not been able to get the cPanel's admin console or the web console to work for me or the admins since day 1. I sent a ticket and I did what the technician told me to do systematically and all that did was wipe my server! After reviewing and going to another tech for support over issue I could not understand why that tech would even suggest what they did unless they did not "READ" the ticket fully or they just had no clue what they were doing, regardless of the reason, as a customer our server players and donors paid for that tech's inept ability.
They don't seem to take the time to "READ" the tickets fully and comprehend what the ticket is saying. I mean simple to the point issues and the response they give is like they only read first sentence and only guessed what the rest of ticket would likely ask. Some of the responses left me thinking "Do they understand English? Let me try rephrasing the whole ticket and resend it" and I do just that and in the end solution usually gets solved and pretty fast too (except the false advertisement)
As stated from begining, i have mixed feelings about GTXGaming. There is no "perfect" company or business out there, there are always going to be issues from time to time and if it was not for the ONE issue of automated backup and saves, I would have given them a 4 or even a 5 star.
If your game does not need automated backups and possible rollbacks then I would say hands down pick GTXGaming, you will love them. The have lightning fast server setup. They have by far the FASTEST ticket responses I have ever seen from any dedicated server service provider, like 1-5 minutes response time 24/7 yes even on Sunday late nights. Easy peasy cPanel with FULL ftp ability to upload your mod .dll files (you usually just send ticket request for ability once and it stays open)
As of today, my server did its 2 hour reboot but the reboot happen during a GTXGaming cPanel crash and my server has been offline for over 5 hours. I had to do back and forth for many hours, finally i opened a new ticket titled Supervisor/Manager and threatened to discontinue my quarterly subscriptions and move on if they did not fix the issue themselves without doing their 'wipe the server to fix an issue solution' they do all the time, I was not fixing the issue they caused to my server. In the end the manager stepped up did the right thing and is fixing server as I type this... 5 hours later.
Good luck deciding
