Random cobweb?
I put together my minibike, forgot to put gas in it and got on.

When I got off the bike, the noise for picking up an item happened and I look at the item pickup indicator and it says +cobweb

I look in my inventory, sure enough, there's a cobweb

How did I get a cobweb for getting on, then off a bike with no gas? And do they have any use?

I think the only other time I've seen a cobweb was as loot on a zombie and I left it there because my inventory was full, and that was over 100 hours ago

That has been happening (at least to me) since minibikes were introduced.

I don't know, I got on and off the bike a few more times and it didn't happen again. Maybe if I get bored I'll take the bike apart and try again in a few days

I only really noticed because I was paying close attention. I'd just spent a really long time cleaning up my base, had almost nothing in my inventory and was putting my bike back together after repairing and upgrading some parts. Slapped it together and hadn't put gas in it yet, clunk... why do I have a cobweb in an otherwise mostly empty inventory?

Cobwebs used to be an old "trap" in the game.. but they were removed. So if Vanilla that is really odd to spawn one in without that item ID in game any more.

Was a ♥♥♥♥ looking trap though that more or less did what barbwire trusses does now, but it was less effective.

I placed it in the corner of a room. It was purely cosmetic. I read about what the old cobwebs did, this has no slowing effect and could be walked through like nothing and destroyed like a curtain with one swipe of a weapon

And yes this is vanilla, no mods at all

I just browsed the xml files a bit, in the loot xml file is this:

-<lootcontainer count="0,1" loot_quality_template="baseTemplate" sound_close="UseActions/close_shopping_basket" sound_open="UseActions/open_shopping_basket" size="3,6" id="62" open_time="0">

<item name="cobweb" prob="0.01" count="0"/>

So is that a 1% chance to get a cobweb if you open or get on a bike with an empty basket? Not sure how that works

And the object is still in the creative menu of items, so it must have an item id somewhere, though i don't see it in the items xml file, must be in one of the others i didnt look through them all

So then its not an item, its a decorative block with no trap characteristics (anymore), that occasionally spawns at random in an empty container

Still odd that it dropped into my inventory after getting off an empty bike though, but whatever; alpha gonna have bugs
