How many blocks does a tree take up?
Title says it all. We are building a huge 100 x 100 pyramid. We plan to leave the top all glass so that sun can come down through. On one of the floors we wanted to do an indoor courtyard. So it could be like you're outside even when you're sitting on one of the floors. We are going to do it up with a little stream and everything but one idea we had was to leave the floorboards out on the floor above and just let the support beams in. One thing i don't want to happen is for the tree to grow too big and destroy anything. So this leads me to my question...how many blocks wide and tall do trees take up? Was thinking of birch trees since they seem smaller than maples. But any insight would help. If it is too risky, I will most likely just plant azaleas everywhere. Thanks!

I know that every tree needs a 3x3 area around it in order to be planted. As for height, no clue. You could easily check that yourself though with some wood frames and just nerd pole to the top of an adult tree, counting how many frames it takes to get there. Trees are also VERY heavy, so be careful putting them on any kind of platform if that is what you are planning.

ahh good to know about the weight...that might be the biggest issue then. maybe best to stay away from it all together unless our courtyard was on the first floor

Yeah, I've never tried it myself, but I've read reports from other people who have tried putting trees on their rooftops and had them collapse. I can't find EXACTLY how much a single adult tree weighs, but I wouldn't risk it personally.

AFAIK a pine needs an area of 1x1x28 blocks. However, you cannot plant them very close to each other.

Yeah, the game won't let you plant a tree within 3 tiles of another tree.

I think we will be 35 blocks high at the tallest point but that would still require just one tree to go through practically the whole building....let alone many trees...thats too damn much lol. Thanks for the tip though!
