Best way to get iron?
I'm looking to upgrade my reinforced concrete, what would be the fastest way to get iron?

Let's see...I have also needed an abundance of iron lately. School desks, office chairs, office furniture, metal shacks, iron fence, broken down vehicles.

I found a good amount of iron in the forest near a lake town. They had fishing houses and docks all along the lake and most of those huts are built with iron and iron supplies galore.

Hope that helps!

Those little rocks that you get on patches of clay, you get iron lumps to be able to smelt down. You may also get potasium, coal or lead

When I scavenge often the best source of iron is tools.

Dig, dig, dig. You can usually get about 40-50 raw iron ore in a single vein, which when smelted can give you about 200-250 iron. I can sometimes get a few thousand raw iron in a shorter time than with just boulders and scrapping parts. But you should always have mining on your mind when traveling. Those boulders are still a good resource while you're out scavenging.

This ^^.

Mining and busting up rocks is nice for iron ore, but you have to smelt it down then reforge it back to iron for upgrades. As Shesk said, wrench down almost everything....cars, refridgerators, lights, office chairs, ac units......not only is it a good source of iron it also nets you some components for other things as well.

Dig to the bottom of a desert biome. Iron viens are always next to oil shale. More abundant in those biomes, too.

Find a patch of gravel on the ground (not the paths/roads of gravel). The one and only time i've dug down as such has provided tens of thousands of raw iron. Your mileage may vary though, i might've just gotten lucky with the vein.

This is actually the fastest and most efficient way to get iron from day 1 throught the rest of the game.

In the early part of the game, spend half a day grabbing these rocks near your base to have enough to stock for smelting for overnight.

Even after all my gear is 600 quality I still use these rocks for a quick stock of iron. I can go out and get 2k of iron ore on my return trip from getting an airdrop or treasure chest, in just a couple of game hours.

Mine. After mining for a while you will have more iron than you know what to do with. Dig until you find sand, then dig out all the sand to expose ores. Repeat. Do not mine under any structure you want to stay standing and do not build over mines unless you place buttresses everywhere. Mines(even at bedrock) cause collapses on the surface.
