I built mine into the side of a mountain, slanted downards with a Hall (Large enough to ride motorcycle down. Its fairly close to the NW trader guy on the Navzagene Map. Building at the low point of the road means theres lots of mountain/hill above for Zombies to dig through. Since I slant down about another 20 blocks I have lots of room to carve out.

Allows me to ride out Blood Moons by running out, gathering 4-5 and bringing them down killing them loot, rinse and repeat. (Drawbridge seperates the entrance and killing room. A Second Drawbridge sepeartes my base. Kinda of an interlock. Been Enclosing everything with metal concreate as I anticipate diggers breaking through.

Probley start over the next version and will do several things different (Larger Hall using only ramps, currently it doglegs down. Not good for riding minibike.)

I prefer to build in the forest biome because it is easy to manage your body temperature there. It is also abundant in wood which I need in large supplies to make wooden spikes for my defences.

I always go for a house close to a village (usually Diersville) for scavenging runs, but not too far from a pond or river. I prefer to fortify an existing house over building one from scratch.

Once I find a good location I spend the first days fortifying the ground floor of the house and removing any doors and windows. Until I can afford a drawbridge I make it so that the base can only be accessed by jumping into it, which is something the zombies can't do. The remaining days I scramble to surround the house with spikes so that hopefully the first horde won't demolish it.

Since I rarely ever play Navezgane, my building location is ever changing. However, I am fond of Savannah biomes and Boreal Forests / Snow Biomes. Since Savannah has seemed to give me the highest wild life spawn so far, it's a great place to never run out of meat. Boreal / Snow because I can pile up the armor / clothing to the max 99% of the time and ensure awesome armor stats.

I also make sure I am near either a) a town b) water body of any size c) Army POI. Best loot / survivability location is when those 3 criteria are met. And I almost exclusively go for platform-style builds. With my main base of operations atop the middle part of said platform.

There's a few screenshots on my profile and I posted a few as well.

I spawned next to a huge two story house in the pine forest on a river that was a few seconds walk to a giant farm and then a couple minutes further to a town. So I had water, food, and a few hours worth of looting potential. Fortified the house pretty well and built an underground safe room in case the zombies got inside (never even tried).

On top of a tall building or three story house. Unless you want to build from scatch, and go crazy. Being high up is good for horde night.

In Navezgane I usually build my base around Cell Tower, on the roof of the building next to the tower. There are many advantages of this, it's relatively secure. There's a lot of wood, grass, stone and animals in the area. There's also a corm farm nearby so harvesting corn provides a good source of food in the start. As soon as I get settled, I build a watch tower using the radio tower. I eventually fortify the fence around the building and dig up a mot. Then I make Spikes in bulk and put them in the mot. By the third week, I have a pretty good defense against the hordes. After I unlock concrete mixing, my base is pretty much impenetrable. I just sit on my watch tower and watch hordes after hordes falling to their death in my pit of death and snipe random zombies for lulz.

I play RWG maps. So what is ideal is unique to each map. Considering where I spawn in, and what I come across early on. I do not build a bunker at bedrock though as that makes the game too trivial (unless on a PvP server then the rules change). Never build in a city you proximity will prevent loot respawn, and zombies will be constant. Never build in the wasteland biome becasue that is home to dogs, cops, ferals, and all types of nasties. Never build where you can be easily undermined either. So avoid mountain tops that would seem like a good strategic points outside of 7D2D. Having a water source nearby is a boon, and not being too far from multiple biome types for shorter trips to get specific resources is always a nice perk too.

If the zombies get inside they next thing they will do is start to work on getting inside your "safe" room. What you want to build rather than a box you end up cornered in. Is escape routes. Otherwise best case scenario you wait for day while they trash your house and try break in yoru room. Then you still have to fight your way back out....

We usually find a forge house and build a 4 block high wall around the outside and surround that with about 4 rows of spikes. But that's an easy way out. We always get bored and run around the outside on horde nights.

i usually find a large piece of completely flat land next to the 0,0 hub city.....somewhere with a water source.....then i start digging 1 block down and fill them up with a layer of basic blocks......

Look for a very green forest, get away from roads and buildings. Use wood to build a base.
Make a base in the second floor.
Dont leave any way to acess the second floor. Make a lot of support blocks in the first floor. put blocks on the edges of your second floor to prevent spiders fron climbing. Every crafting station and the sleeing bag must go to the second floor. Where the undead must not get to you.
After the main base is done build a wall, and install log traps arround it, three logs in every direction. Let the main exit clean, but create a defense perimeter arround it.
Go to desert biome and gather aloe vera and yucca fruits, and start a plantation of both on your base.
Repleace the grass floor with wooden blocks to prevent the undead from spawnming inside your fort, let some openings to plant trees inside. The undead also does not spawn on farmlands, so your plantations are safe.
The walls must keep you hidden during the day.

Find clay in the floor, build a forge.
Collect some buckets of water, use the trick of infinite water inside your base.

Collect lots of feathers and make lots of arrows and prepare for the 7th day...
The 7th days is the blood moon.
During a blood moon, go the defensive perimeter, and use the famours defensives tatics. Like metal bars to shoot throught. And lots of spikes.

I like to build on the edge of a town in a forest biome. Nice flat ground, lots of loot nearby, lots of Zs nearby and you don't need to change clothes alot.

i like to find a wasteland city and get to the middle of it. there i find a tall building, chop the stairs goning up. then i start my stronghold. this way im safe from most raiders as many players try to avoid the waste land and cities. i also try and find a spot near snow as its a never ending source of water. also on a side note, i usually bury any good loot i have away from my base so i can dig it up when i need it. and if i get raided they wont get my best stuff.
