Where are all the deer, pigs, bears, chickens and rabbits at? Alpha 16 experimental
I'm using Random Gen, named the game world Keep Out, have turned zombie spawning off and am not using creative mode. I had spent the majority of day 1, the entire night of day 1 and 3 hours of day 2 trying to hunt but haven't come across anything to kill. I had completed all 8 starting tasks including finding the trader.

I have went through 2 town hubs, a rural area, a desert, a burned forest and 3 forests but encountered no wildlife. I had created a different game world 2 days ago and couldn't find anything to hunt even though I had traveled several kilometers in any direction. I had went through 6 towns, 3 rural areas (farms), 6 forests, 4 deserts, 4 lakes and 3 burned forests but hadn't found anything to hunt.

I wound up deleting that game world, uninstalling the game, reinstalling it and opening the current game world and am still not finding anything to kill. Do the prey animals only spawn if the zombie spawning is turned on or not? It's just really odd and somewhat annoying to spend hours trying to gather meat but not being able to find anything.

Any advice would be really helpful.

I've got plenty running around in my game. Deer are so dumb at the moment that i can just walk upto them with out even crouching or anything. I think if you go behind them they can't see you.

I think I seen a post on the official forums that said animals wouldn't spawn if zombies are turned off. Something in the xml files that lists them as "entity enemy=true". changing it to false would let them spawn.

Please don't quote me on that. I was just browsing not paying much attention. :)

My problem is they are not spawning, nothing is spawning, not a single deer, bear, pig, chicken or rabbit. Zip zilch zero nada nothing

ezgadner what's the xml file thing? do you press F1 or ` in-game to access it or do you have to do it within the game menu itself?

The xml files are in the game's directory in your steam library. I suggest you head to the modding sub forum and ask in there for help with this as it will involve editing some files and the guys and gals in that forum do it all the time (as it's the usual way to modify this game easily).

This is in the entityclasses.xml, as mentioned by ezgardner;

<!-- Stealth settings --> <property name="SightRange" value="30"/> <!-- distance in m --> <property name="SightScale" value="-2,150"/> <property name="NoiseAlertThreshold" value="20"/> <!-- for awake zombies --> <property name="SmellAlertThreshold" value="20"/> <!-- for awake zombies --> <property name="SurfaceCategory" value="organic"/> <property name="ParticleOnDeath" value="blood_death"/> <property name="SoundHurt" value="Animals/stagpain"/> <property name="SoundDeath" value="Animals/stagdeath"/> <property name="TimeStayAfterDeath" value="300"/> <property name="IsEnemyEntity" value="false"/> <!-- Set this if you want this entity to be spawned when user chooses 'enemy entities off' --> <property name="ExperienceGain" value="247"/> <property name="CorpseBlock" value="animalGore"/> <property name="CorpseBlockChance" value="1"/> <property name="DeadBodyHitPoints" value="350"/> <drop event="Harvest" name="rawMeat" count="1"/> </entity_class>

The line "IsEnemyEntity" must be "false" for them to spawn - and that is true for pigs, rabbits and chickens... any timid animals.

The Bear is set to "true", as it's an hostile enemy. I have not seen this setting for wolves, snakes and vultures though, but they probably fall in the same category.

No zombies = no animals. Turning off the zombies also turns off animals.

why would you turn of zombies? thats like the whole point of the game

It's a real pain in the ayass dealing with those pests while trying to set up base, you wind up spending 80% of the time repairing while you're trying to build. Like the Mongolians trying to tear down Lui Kim's city wall on South Park. DARN YOU MONGORIANS!!!

To expand on the comments above me, some people play the game a little more casually. Not my cup of tea, but I can see the attraction if you just wanna do more building than surviving. Unfortunately, no matter what the settings are, a player still needs food.

Brings up the question though - should the dev's add a 'craft mode' that plays more like a casual game? Like, food and water wouldn't degenerate so fast. I dunno.. Just spit ballin here.

I clicked on <entity_class name = "animalTemplateTimid"> and <!-- Set this if you want this entity to be spawned when user chooses 'enemy entities off' --> showed up. I'm wondering if I had done thast right?

I think I did get it right, scrolled down a little further and the text <property name="IsEnemyEntity" value="false"/> <!-- Set this if you want this entity to be spawned when user chooses 'enemy entities off' --> appeared. Do I press the X button for it to be set?

Do you know how to use pastebin? I suggest uploading your file to pastebin and posting a link here so people can just check for you. :)
