This is in the entityclasses.xml, as mentioned by ezgardner;
The line "IsEnemyEntity" must be "false" for them to spawn - and that is true for pigs, rabbits and chickens... any timid animals.
The Bear is set to "true", as it's an hostile enemy. I have not seen this setting for wolves, snakes and vultures though, but they probably fall in the same category.
Brings up the question though - should the dev's add a 'craft mode' that plays more like a casual game? Like, food and water wouldn't degenerate so fast. I dunno.. Just spit ballin here.
I think I did get it right, scrolled down a little further and the text <property name="IsEnemyEntity" value="false"/> <!-- Set this if you want this entity to be spawned when user chooses 'enemy entities off' --> appeared. Do I press the X button for it to be set?
