Moon angle is 90 degrees off from the real moon
A minor thing I noticed playing today. In 7DtD, the phases of the moon happen along the north-south direction of the moon (line of symmetry is north-south) (http://i.imgur.com/EhdbFfP.jpg). The shadow creeps in the North-South direction. On Earth, the moon phases change East-West with the symmetry happening along the same East-West line. As a result, the moon in the game is 90 degrees off from what it should be. It should be a simple fix that makes a noticeable difference to those looking for it.

In-game screenshots demonstrating my issues.

Below is a video showing the moon travel across the equatorial. You can see that the phase begins to darken on the portion of the moon closer to the western direction. In 7DtD, the moon phase changes north and south, not east and west.

Picture of a timelapse of the moon. You can see that the phase change happens East-West with the symmetry line being along the East-West direction. The field of view is exaggerated.

A really good demonstration of how the moon phases happen and why they should be along the lines of symmetry and motion.

Tangentially, but less important to me, the moon and sun follow roughly the same path in real life. In the game, the sun is some 45 degrees over the horizon while the moon is directly above. There are tons of tiny changes that could be made to make the moon-sun system, but the angle change to the moon makes a big difference for a simple change to the image files.

After trying desperately to find any comprehensive time-lapse photos or videos, I can see why this error would exist. All the aids I'm finding have the same phases of the moon, but hardly anything from the perspective of someone on Earth. I don't think any less of the Devs for not catching this, but I do hope that we can continue adding to the realism of the game the way they intended to by creating the moon phases to begin with.

If there is an interest in applying these changes, I would be willing to help in figuring out the direction of the change of shadow on the moon (e.g. east to west or west to east)

@OP. if it's a simple fix I'm ok with fixing it... not a priority though.

Dude....are you being serious right now OP?

It's part of the story line they are developing.

Aliens shift the moon off it's axis by 90 degrees hoping the tidal shifts would cause catastrophic damage to the Earth and kill all known life.

When it was apparent that would not work they infected all the morons with IQ's below 100 (so most people who frequent steam) with a virus that actually made them smarter but also unliving blood thirsty zomtards.

The Alien master race also sent down individuals (Feral) to go for nudie runs and kill anything that crossed their paths

I remember someone made a similar post about the lighting in the game, and it ended up being just a wall of text like this one.

I also have some concerns while at it... the grass is not moving naturally cause even if I hear the wind from the east, the grass is waving in a random direction. Pls fix.

This is fiction, not real life. You should probably talk to a professional.

Or perhaps it is story line? If we can believe in zombies and zombie bears, why not aliens that invade the planet after moving the moon?

From a little bit of google search I see other developers asking similar questions, it seems like it's just a unity setting, example:

http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/622459/set-directionallight-rotation-for-daynight-per-tim.html

I don't know, someone more familiar with unity than me could probably fix that in a matter of minutes, if they cared enough

If you are really interested in getting this fixed I'd suggest using the official forums, the devs don't seem to respond to steam posts often (as in ... never)

I only spent about 15 seconds investigating this, I'm sure if you want to invest a few additional minutes you might even be able to present them with a solution:
