DualSense (PS5) Controller - Rumble and Adaptive Triggers
Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same struggles as I am here with controller rumble.

The goal I am trying to achieve is BOTH standard controller rumble and adaptive trigger functionality.
Despite my troubleshooting I can't get both to work at the same time, it's one or the other.

This is strange to me since I've played many other games with my DualSense controller with no issues. (Returnal, DEATHLOOP, etc.)

I do not use any sort of 3rd party software like DS4Windows.

I've tried several different combinations of settings outlined below with their results:
(all with the adaptive triggers setting in the game set to ON)

Controller WIRED connection - Steam Input DISABLED
YES inputs, NO normal rumble, YES adaptive triggers

Controller WIRELESS connection - Steam Input DISABLED
YES inputs, NO normal rumble, NO adaptive triggers

Controller WIRED connection - Steam Input ENABLED
YES inputs, YES normal rumble, NO adaptive triggers

Controller WIRELESS connection - Steam Input ENABLED
YES inputs, YES normal rumble, NO adaptive triggers

If anyone has gotten both the normal rumble and triggers to work at the same time, please let me know what you did.

You're doing something wrong.
I always use my DualSense controller wired with SteamInput forcefully permanently disabled.

Input, rumble and adaptive triggers work.

Maybe make sure your gamepad isn't muted?

Also, yes, I know that a wired connection is the first thing required.

I included all of the different combinations just to cover all bases.

Same.

My testing is being done at the first door you have to open, where you must press "X" and then hold "R2" to open it.

OK so fixed the issue for me, turns out there is a toggle for adaptive triggers on the controller settings in the game and for some reason its off by default

Okay what the heck, I had never even considered this.

I also only ever use the DualSense with a wired connection, but I did have the controller speaker disabled in the Windows Sound Control Panel.

I re-enabled the controller speaker... and now the rumble and adaptive triggers both work while wired and with Steam Input disabled.

Thanks!

The Dual Sense controller works fine in wireless mode while playing Horizon Forbidden West which also is a PS5 title so I find it quite odd that this game doesn't support wireless unless one enables Steam Input but then neither rumble or adaptive triggers work.

For me I get the following results:

Controller WIRED connection - Steam Input DISABLED
YES inputs, YES normal rumble, YES adaptive triggers

Controller WIRELESS connection - Steam Input DISABLED
NO inputs, NO normal rumble, NO adaptive triggers

Controller WIRED connection - Steam Input ENABLED
YES inputs, YES normal rumble, NO adaptive triggers

Controller WIRELESS connection - Steam Input ENABLED
YES inputs, YES normal rumble, NO adaptive triggers

Basically the only difference is that I get no input on wireless without Steam Input just the PS button.

I'll go one step further to say I find the rumble is too intense if you are using anything other than a DualSense or if you are routing it through Steam Input. The haptics and vibrations are much more subtle and intentional. Even with DualSense and the Steam Input being on, I feel like I'm using a lawnmower.

Just tested again and you are right, wired is the way to go until and if they fix it in Bluetooth

I can get adaptive triggers to work, but no rumble at all, regardless of any options chosen.

Tried enabling/disabling steam input, enabling/disabling adaptive triggers. I don’t use wired, as I’m too far away from my PC.

FFXVI is such a bad port in almost every way. Bad optimisation graphically that causes awful framerate issues and with bad peripheral support for controllers.

It’s annoying because it is such a great game and it deserves better.

Adaptive triggers will only work wired, it's always been that way outside of a couple of games that can do a limited version of it wirelessly.

You're thinking of haptics.

Adaptive Triggers work fine wirelessly.
But I wouldn't recommend using a DualSense wirelssly, it'll have variable reporting rate somewhere between 250 and 500 Hz.

Wired has 1 kHz. At least DualSense Edge.
