Pretty good game, but does anyone else feel like this is a SAO clone?

Joshua is a direct ripoff of Kirito from the personality, character design, dual wieldig swords, etc. and Estelle is an Asuna ripoff.

Not a bad game but some originality would be nice.

Well I just named two other pairs of anime leads who follow a similar pattern of characterization (Allison Whittington / Wilhelm Schultz and, debatably, Éclair / Armbrust though tthey don't really have a relationship in the normal sense), and someone pointed out an even earlier pair of anime leads that also follows a similar pattern (Asuka Langley Soryu / Shinji Ikari).

So yeah, the loud girl / quiet guy pairing is not new at all.

Edit: Steam, stop siding with the angels and bullying the poor girl already. She can't change her fate, or even her given name. What more do you want from her?

Actually personality wise Joshua would probably be more akin to Kenshin and Estelle would likely be more like Kaoru (Rurorin Kenshin AKA Samurai X). Joshua's normally gentle and nice but becomes cold and has the eyes of a killer when pushed to the limit (especially if you've played the 2nd game) despite occasionally reverting to that state he tries not to kill other humans just like Kenshin. In addition to that both Joshua and Kenshin were ruthless assassins when they were younger albeit Joshua didn't exactly have a choice. Estelle is wildly tomboyish and quite independent plus she's pretty known by her family to be a horrible cook just like Kaoru.

I'm not reading 7 pages of this silliness.

Sword Art Online started in 2002, and Sora no Kiseki started in 2004. However, the general concepts of Estelle and Joshua have been around for longer than that, probably predating Sword Art Online anyway; these games, after all, were in development before the turn of the century.

Any similarities can probably be blamed on the fact that none of the characters in question are particularly original, because it's essentially just a genderswap of the typical RPG dynamic of mysterious girl + fiery young boy.

Couple corrections even though this is a ressurect troll post:

- The competition was 2001.
- Estelle and Asuna bear almost zero comparability, the only real point being that they're... female protagonists in a series with an anime aesthetic.
- Joshua and Kirito have about as much in common as I have the possibility of finding a million bucks in my cat's litterbox. (That's a negatory, btw.)

Well, Sword Art Online and Trails in the Sky did have some similarities.

I've known this game way very long before SAO so when I first saw Kirito/Asuna, they reminded me of Joshula/Estelle. They did have some similarities in design and people have bragged about dual wielding since after SAO release.

Also, in my opinion, another similarity is the Aincrad city in SAO, which is very similar to the Liberl Ark in Trails SC. The destruction of Aincrad and Liberl Ark also.

In term of story/plot. DON'T even compare SAO to this.

About the rip-off thing. I've read some explanation comments above but do you have any proof?
