Does "Save Her" really have an impact on anything?
You know, when Shovel Knight needs to catch Shield Knight
I've just missed catching her, and I'd like to know if it affects the ending or anything
And before anyone says that NES games never had multiple endings so this one doesn't, Castlevania II did

I was wondering the same thing. When I saved her, I got a meal ticket... but I don't know if that would have been there anyway or not.

On the topic, do you have to press a specific button to "save her" or is it just touching her? The game's unclear on this point.

I think you only have to touch her. The dream sequence ends when you either touch her or she touches the ground. Did you get a meal ticket in a chest afterwards? I'm thinking saving her gives you the ticket, but I don't know for certain. I know when I saved her, there was a chest with a meal ticket. When I didn't, there was no chest.

The chest is there after each portion of the game (after defeating 3 knights, before the map allows you to go further). It's actually there before you fall asleep and since later on you also have to survive a lot of enemies during the dream I suspected you may get looted as you sleep (chest open/empty/gone once you wake up).

Can anyone who let her drop confirm?

In my New Game+ I pressed the Pause button to skip every cutscene and after the intro level, where there is normally a "Save Her" sequence I was able to skip it entirely by pressing that. So I assume it does nothing. I bet the dialogue changes in the last level if you don't catch her though.

It's just a dream then - as it should be.

You can still get the Meal Ticket if you let her fall.

I let her fall and I got the meal ticket

Cool then. I think this is the first interactive cutscene I've ever played without realizing.
How do you even know if you catch her? Twice now I think I've caught her but I'm unsure.

True. It fades out all the same. But you expect it.
The dream is an omen for what's to come anyway.

maybe it changes the ending, I don't know or maybe it's just to make the player feel more invested into rescuing shield knight

I always just figured that if you let her drop you lose any gems you got during the fight before she drops on the screen. Never thought to experiment with that, though.

I let her drop on NG+ and all that changes is the dialog...

If you catch her she says "You caught me"

If you don't she says "You came for me"

Nothing else changes.
