Melee weapon types - is there some difference?
Question for players who got far in game (only doind all quests for choosing faction by myself).

By now i can't see any difference between slashing/piercing/swords weapons except damage spread on it. Piercing do rather fixed damage when slashing has much spread which also can be good. So it is just choice of player which type to use.

But is there some difference in future? Maybe big amount of enemies weak for only one meele-type, so using that type make your journey easily? Or maybe some interesting uniq weapons in certain type?

Or maybe some info that monsters has different defense values for different meele-type weapons? Because as far as i can see there is no difference in killing monsters with sword and axe.

No.

In more detail:

No, not even the end skills (master / blade spinner etc etc) give different attacks / combos. In fact, the endgame melee weapons have largely the same damage spreads as well (+/- 5 difference, generally).

Well, I edited it to be more accurate.

No, but with more detail.

No (n+1)

Oooh, ooh.

I remembered more "No": There's no difference in finishing moves either, and finishing moves are purely random, not determined by weapon type, so you end up cutting monster's throats with your blunt spiritual hammer.

So: No (n+3)

Always fun slitting a skeleton's throat.

I imagine it's more of a gotcha when you focus on slashing weapons and find out all your piercing weapons are better :)

You need a good crushing weapon for skeletons. Unfortunately even though maces exist in Risen 3, for some unknown reason, they are slashing weapons ;) They should have just left them out altogether because that would make a whole lot more sense than slashing with a mace.

Maces are slashing weapons?

I suppose the have sharp edges :)

Well in the games' defence, it takes a lot of skill to only cut a throat with a mace.
Just imagine the character really is that good at fighting.

That is a very good point.

Yeah, i've noticed that already with axe )) some finishing moves looks just ridiculous)

If you've played Risen 1, it's actually a massively odd design choice.

Risen 1 had special moves (unlockable by training skills), the different melee types actually played differently - and the weapons were locked to abilities / skills (e.g. requires X str, Y dex, Z base skill). So, buying skills / abilities had a real impact and notably, were faction locked. i.e. only one faction allowed the best sword training, unless you stacked XP & invested before chosing a faction. So, yes, in Risen 1, you could lock yourself out of using entire weapon classes by chosing a faction.

Risen 2 / 3 - not so much. More types in Risen 3 from Risen 2 (xbow, magic), but just as shallow in game terms.

Most people view muskets as the most fun weapon to use.

Rather fun, but... don't know... Boring? It need much bullets yes, it maybe a problem (at least at the beginning). But in fact it more boring that melee because of reload delay (in fact of it absence). You just
1. Roll
2. Fire
3. Repeat if necessary
4. PROFIT!!11

No timing at all. You don't actually need to watch enemy's moves. Just roll back and fire.

Slashing weapons are the best because you'll use slashing animations no matter what type of weapon you use, and slashing with a fencing foil is just weird.

So why not swords? )) Slashing animation fit them as well.

Because u cant thrust, swords are designed for both thrust and slash.
