No offense, but did you ever finish Risen 1? I don't wan tto spoil anything, but Mendoza is not who you think he is at the beginning of that game.

That's actually my main gripe with this game, too. That Patty's your character's sister (or that there isn't someone else rendered so meticulously from the waist up whom you could bring along).
I thought it happened when you joined a faction ... because he only seems to leave for me when I say that I have solved all the mine problems to that guy standing in front of the main building on Taranis.... I loaded and have not joined a faction... but ... also wondering if this is the case how you complete the last quest he issues as it requires you to goto the sacred valley, which I believe you can only get to by joining a faction???
