No need to raise taxes to much and "scare" everybody away. ;)

You can make a good deal of income from Bus/Train/Subway stations as long as you know how to do that. Besides side deals with neighborhood cities and weird deals that usually only appear when you start to go in the red ( prisons/army bases ) the only way really is taxes. Best way to keep money flowing is by making sure you're changing the necessary budgets to fit where you need them. Move slowly. Stick with water towers for a long while (they slowly degrade and they are cheaper than water aquafers. You got to take into mind with the aquafers degrade quickly and you'll end up having to put more down over time... and/or better yet destroy them at a certain point and build a new one(s). Same thing applies to power plants. As long as you slowly build into your city you'll be fine and have MORE than enough money to continue doing as you wish. Point really is to be able to decrease taxes overtime to solidify your economy and always have tons of demand so you can continue to keep building quickly.

Takes awhile to learn the little things, but it's cool.

NOTE: You can do a lot with just a fire station and an elementary school and a water tower!! In fact you can build your entire city without water for awhile and you can make a ton of money with that, just you won't get $$ type of buildings coming in thus will halt your city growth, but can be done in the beginning to build it up.

If you have water connections you can build seaports to earn some income and raise industrial demand. Also, Industrial zoning earns you more. Don't forget to get rid of things you don't need atm
